My impression is that the vast majority who respond think that Valentine 1 is the best device out there.
However, if you go to radartest.com, they trash Valentine 1 for being outdated and not good for Ka band radar guns (the latest trend).
They highly rate the BEL 980 and Escort Passport 8500.
Just curious as to why so many in the Corvette community swear by Valentine?????

There is a reason why the majority of people here on the forum own a V1, it's because it's the best. The other radar detectors you mentioned are very good but the V1 features directional arrows which many of us find very useful.
I've been very happy with my V1, but it's your hard earned money, purchase whatever you'll feel happy with.
Car & Driver did a detector test a couple of months ago, the V1 came out on top. You may still be able to find the test on the website, I'm not sure.
I've had detectors without arrows, with the V1 I feel I've doubled the useful information. Some other detectors are good too, just be sure to have a "scout" ahead of you for instant-on radar.

That site is owned by a consultant that does work for Escort.
V1 is the best. But the Passport 8500 is very good. Just the added bells and whistles on the V1, arrows and counter and the rear antenna, puts it over the top. Once you get used to the arrows you cannot live without them.
From: Frankenstein never scared me. Marsupials do, because they're fassst…and they DART, THAT'S crazy!

Re: Question on Radar Detectors (Tom73)
Directional arrows, bogie counter and the upgradeable feature sold me on the V1 and I currently own a Passport, an Escort and a Cobra digital. I use the V1 the most now.
I posted a side-by-side review of the features and performance characteristics of all the radar/laser detectors I listed above along with my impressions of each. If you want you can do a search on it and see what you think of each. :)
