This is a question that I posted in the C6 General section a bit ago but I also wanted to hit the Audio section to see if anybody can help.
I just installed a GM NAV unit that I bought from another forum member into my GS and I expected to find that I needed to have something done using a Tech 2 to recognize it. What I did have happen was as soon as I connected the harnesses in the back of the NAV unit I was able to open it up and take out the discs that were left in it, but upon closing it it now gives "Theft Lock is Active" message in the middle of the screen and nothing will operate. Is there something that can be done to release this or is this another Tech 2 fix also?

Yes, you need to have a dealer/someone with a Tech2 command your NAV unit to "re-learn" your car's VIN. Currently, it has someone else's car's VIN stored in it.
When a NAV unit is brand new, the first time it is connected to a car and the ignition switch is set to "on", it "learns" and stores the VIN number of the car. Thereafter, every time the car's switch is turned to "on" the NAV unit compares the VIN stored in it's memory to the VIN reported by the car. If they don't match, the unit goes into theftlock.
I got in contact with the Chevy dealer that I've used for years for corvette work and have an appointment for tomorrow. The "scary" thing is that they told me it could be in excess of $200 to unlock the radio..!!!
Any COMPETENT tech should be able to do it in under 20 minutes. I'd get the cost in writing BEFORE you let them take the car, and if they charge you for more than 1/2 hour labor I'd find someone else to do it.
