Well, I think I will answer my own question. did a bunch of searching on here and didn't find anything, but just got off the phone with Doctor Don and he said it is impossible because of the VIN coding/antitheft system. He pretty much talked me into going original with his upgrades to the stock unit which include a much better CD and an aux input for the smart phone.

1990 c4 used a double din radio so almost any double din touch screen will fit, you will need to cut the mount in back off the radio to clear the cables, if you go to the http://www.crutchfield.com/ web site you can look up what will fit and what you need to make it work.

You should def go with an updated head unit. There's room to work in the dash and any decent audio shop can get a double din or larger in. You can look at my thread, 1989 Audio Update, to see the work on my 1989 coupe which started off with a din and a half but made room for an 8" Alpine.
