I just installed an original gm nav unit part #15791220 from a 2007. My car is a 2010 with bose and bluetooth, everything works fine except the phone button does not work. If a call comes in it will mute the radio and ring through the speakers, but i have to answer with the phone then i can speak hands free. Same thing for outgoing calls if i use siri it will mute the radio and i can speak hands free. I know 2007 cars did not have bluetooth, but is there a way i could get the steering wheel button to work with this radio? When i change my phone i won't be able to pair the new one.
The BT functions are handled by the original '10 OnStar module, and the '07 radio was programmed for onstar, so the common features between BT and onstar are still working.
However, the SW buttons are connected directly to the radio, so the radio has to tell the onstar module when you push a button. Since the '07 radio was programmed before BT came along, the radio isn't programmed for BT controls. The SW controls you do have are most likely only there since the '07 radio was capable of controlling OnStar.
I don't think reprogramming the '07 radio is possible.
When you get a new phone you could reinstall the original radio just long enough to pair it with the BT module
Thank you for your response. I was afraid of having to reinstall the original radio if i change phones. Or change the radio for a newer model year.now the radio has froze up on me a couple of times now no screen no volume etc.
