I'm installing an AVIC-8000NEX and am trying to decide where to mount the bluetooth mic. I think I've narrowed it down to either the stock location (top of the driver's side A pillar) or up next to the rear view mirror. Intuitively I would expect the mirror area to suffer less from wind noise with the windows down and the targa top off. On the other hand, Chevrolet engineers chose the A-pillar location for a reason. Hence I am torn.

This is where I put mine. Works great in the stock location. I have not tested it with the windows down and/or the top off.

If you don't carry passengers, I'd say the stock location. If you carry a passenger who ever wishes to use the phone, maybe the middle would be a better choice.
What I'd like to know is whether there is a way to tap into the factory mic for use with an aftermarket HU. Now THAT would be sweet.

It depends. IF you have the newer mic, and IF it has the correct impedance, and IF you don't mind cutting off the factory plug and soldering on a mini plug for the aftermarket stereo, and IF you don't care about ever being able to fully restore the car to stock condition, then you could experiment with that idea. You'd think that in the 9 years that the C6 has been on the streets somebody ould have tried it...
I'm looking at the NEX head unit and was wondering if you could share a pic of how you are doing the cabling for your cell phone. Also, if you are using a navigation app can you still stream music? Thanks.
It took most of the day, but I got the AVIC 8000NEX installed today. I took the advice in this thread and mounted the mic near the factory location. I made a test call and the callee said it sounded great.

That's still an open question. I originally wanted to bring 3 cables (USB cable for iPod, USB cable for Android phone, HDMI cable for android phone) into the center armrest area by drilling a hole just to the right of the "tombstone", but because of the huge connectors on the ends of the cables I would need a 1-1/4" diameter hole to allow the 30-pin iPod connector to pass through, and then a suitable grommet to plug that huge hole while still passing all 3 cables. I have temporarily routed the cables to the glove box while I figure out the best way to run the cables.

Do you mean a navigation app on your phone or the built-in navigation in the NEX itself? I'm not sure about the former case, but in the latter case I'm pretty sure you can.

The AVIC-8000NEX has 2 USB and 1 HDMI port on the back of it which must be brought out to some accessible spot in the car. I thought about this for a long time and considered many options, but ultimately decided to cut a slot in the "tombstone" and route the wires through it:
The result is a bit of a rat's nest, especially with both a phone and an iPod connected, but at least it's all hidden away when the armrest is closed.

Here's what I know so far:
If you're running in AppRadio Mode all of the "native" audio sources seem to be unavailable. However, you can stream audio from an app on your phone (e.g. the Pioneer Car Media Player app) in the background while also running a navigation app like Waze in the foreground. Waze will even attenuate the music automatically whenever it delivers a voice prompt. This is with my Galaxy Note 3 Android phone; YMMV if you use an iPhone.
