I know that this may sound stupid but I am curious just the same. I have my entire system wired in and all of the carpet back in place as well as the trim. I still have the center console to finish and I am glad I didn't put it back yet.
I am wondering as this is odd to me. I have the HU connected to the appropriate wires... how much voltage should I be getting with a check at the yellow wire/accessory? I get about 10VDC. I first had the HU connected to the OEM harness but had no power to the HU. I then connected to the wires in the floor panel. Still the HU does not power up. I have the voltage and a good ground.
Shouldn't the HU power up with all necessary wires connected...??? I thought that was the general idea of the whole thing :cry
I tried it for about 4 hours with every conceivable idea I had. This HU has 5 built in options for security and such that I am not connecting. Could this keep it from powering up? I doubt it. It won't even suck in a CD...
What do you guys think.. I think that the HU is forked... Going to buy a new one tomorrow..hope that I can find a stereo shop open on Sunday.
Last question and I am outta here... looks like I have to get a DIN stereo this go around.. what is the appropriate adapter I need. I have looked and am unsure.. I would like to finish this whole project up without anymore unpleasantries...
How do you know that you wired the new HU into the car properly? Did you have a schematic of the Bose system or a listing of the color codes for the stereo harness?
Use this info to check your wiring. DO NOT connect to any other wires in the harness.

Measure the voltage at the passenger footwell, where youhave your Valentine wired to. There are three wires, 12+constant, 12+switched and chassis ground. Measure the 12+ constant in the floor panel, which sould correspond to the yellow wire harness wire, if the is 12+ or more use the floor lead. If not theres something dragging down the 12+ constant supply on that circuit.
Thanks all for the replies and here is a synopsis of what I did.
I had the Pioneer HU and on Saturday I started wiring it in since I had all of the wires ran and was ready for this step of the installation. I went to Car Toys and bought an antenna adapter and also a wiring harness adapter. I first hooked up the wires according to the HU instructions and the color coding from the website listed above.
Nada...no power at all... I then broke out the trusted Fluke DMM and started checking the circuit. I had 12+ VDC at the wire in the harness @ the stereo. I had a good ground at the harness. Only about 1 volt at the accessory wire at the harness. I was like, damn must be some sort of step down in the circuit. Then wired into the wiring in the floorboard.
Nada...nothing again. I was wondering what in the hell was going on.. Doing the DC part of the entire project was going to be the easiest part of the whole thing. That was not to be. I then went to the battery and hooked a wire to + and then to a ground and still nothing. I was really pissed then. Was about 1230 in the morning and was tired and pissed.
Posted on here with this thread and went to bed. Awoke and went to Car Toys. Purchased a new JVC do everything HU. Also an adapter for DIN. The DIN adapter was perfect install. :D Next came the HU. It went in like a glove. Connected all of the wires using the harness. Nada... didn't work. I was getting pissed again... Went to the floorboard and hooked it up...
Bada Bing... That was the ticket... I then cleaned up the wires behind the HU and finished off the install. It looks great and the car is all back together.
Total time on entire stereo upgrade.. about 2 weeks off and on.. Tonight I will put the AMP rack in and wire it up and should be the end of that.
Moral of the story is.... If your wife ever wins a door prize from the US Government Christmas Party...throw the damn thing away and do not give it a second thought... threw the Pioneer HU in the circular file cabinet last night and slept like a baby...hehe... :jester
Yeah.. it really sucked and better than a Bangkok Ho!... :D
I am still finishing my Amp box but I have very high hopes that that will go off without a hitch. The only thing is, that after looking at others posts my setup will be a little off since I have one silver amp and one black amp. Hmmmm...can't afford another McIntosh amp at the moment.
Do many peeps have different colored amps in their rides?
