Upgrade question
Not getting crazy (yet lol) so just keeping stock Bose door speakers but thinking of using a Polk 5.25" component set for rear. Any other suggestions?
Eventually I'd like to replace all speakers and have a 5 channel amp run the system, but for this year my budget is keeping me at only replacing the head unit.
Just replacing the HU will eliminate the Bose box, so you'll notice a slight improvement there. If you also replaced the front 3.5" door speakers with some cheap aftermarket 2-ways there would be an even bigger gain on top of what the HU picked up.
Changing out the HU and rears at the same time will also get you better highs, but it may sound strange to some peeople if most of the highs were coming at you from the back. However, if you have a plan to step through the improvements, that's not all that bad of a place to be.
The ROEM is only really needed if you keep the oem front door speakers functional. If you did it all at once you could eliminate the adapter since all you'd need from the car is switched power.
my last vette had an amp mounted in the rear and the bass coming from the door speakers was actually pretty impressive. it would actually shake the door panels and if I pressed my arm against it hard, it would shake my entire arm. However, it was very lacking in the highs!! I never had a chance to pull the door panels to see what was in the doors (i wrecked the car) but in hind sight I should have stripped the stereo when they totaled it. anyways, would the bose door speakers actually produce bass with an aftermarket amp?
I am also surprised at the amount of bass these Pioneers produce. For their size and price, you really can't beat them.
Most difficult part of the entire install is cutting and gluing MDF under the carpet to mount the amp(s). Next was being a contortionist to run the main power cables through the firewall beneath the battery! After that, it is just time.......... Took me about 20 hours start to finish to do the entire system.
