Default separate dvd/screen or combined unit

Im trying to decide between a separate DVD player and in-dash screen, or the combined unit. I've seen the Clarion, Pioneer, and Kenwood units that combine DVD, MP3, CD, etc. And although they are very convenient, I think that it would be less expensive to go with a separate dvd player and in-dash screen.

What do you guys and gals think?

Its usually the other way around. The alpine system for example adds much more to the price. I would look at the LCD, ergonomics and features and decide what is best for you.

I have plenty of room for the separate pieces. Granted the combined unit would be more "ease of use" as I wouldn't have to reach around to get to the DVD player.

As a "for instance" :

Pioneer AVX-7300 7" in-dash screen $699
Pioneer SDV-P7 DVD/CD player $369

Pioneer AVX-P7300DVD in-dash DVD with 7" screen $1260

In this case it's cheaper to go with the separate by almost $200.

I haven't really done a lot of homework yet, I just know that it's something I'll be doing eventually and want to start looking in the right direction.

Yes and no :) I'm looking at doing the install for my wifes Expedition (family mobile) first and then doing one in my vette. So you can see why I would be trying to minimize the $$$$$. $200 saving for each set-up gives me $400 to spend elsewhere.

In the Vette, I would opt for an all in one ... in the Expedition ... get the pieces ... becuase there is much more room ..
