Silicone it ... if you havent made the box yet ... pre drill the holes ... put silicone on the joint then screw the box together ... thats how I did my dad's box ... and then added silicone to the joints again ... wel worth the $5 for the 2 tubes ...
Very easy! If you have a good table saw and make all of your cuts straight, you wont really need to use silicone. I pre-drill and countersink first and then use wood screws (sheet rock screws) with wood glue. The wood glue acts as a sealant once you bring pressure to the joints with the screws and then wipe the excess with your finger and force it back into the joints. It doesnt hurt to use silicone afterwards if you want to be on the safe side but is really not necessary.
I do all the above and a little extra. I pour some fiberglass resin inside the box (through the speaker hole) and swirl it around. You have to do this fast or the resin will harden to where you won't be able to seal it. After it hardens the resin will seal all the porous holes in the box and joints. You will get a much tighter bass effect. It sounds AWESOME!! :D :seeya
When I finally decided on the configuration I was going to use I went through 5 tubes of liquid nails. It is sealed like a drum if you know what I mean.
