Default Need install advice.

I ordered Infinity Kappa 62.5 (5.25") and 693.5 (6x9) and an Alpine mrv-f340 amp. Do I need to make MDF plates to moun the speakers in the original spaces? Are the enclosure easy to remove, any tips? Do I need to insulate the enclosures with fiber or sound deadening material?
I want to mount the amp against the back wall under the hatch. How should I mount this? Directly throught the carpet to the back panel or some other way and with what hardware?

Did you get the 6 1/4 or 5 1/4 for the fronts? (Think you have a typo.) Are you replacing Bose or standard stereo? My car is a different set up than yours (86 vert), but I can tell you a couple things I've picked up from reading and doing my car. 5 1/4 in the front is no problem. 6 1/4 is doable, but it takes a bit more work (cutting to fit) - at least in the earlier c4's. The mounting setup in verts is a bit different in the rear so I may not be able to help you much there, but I can tell you that I have the same rear 6x9's and I have to cut the fiberglass/plastic mounting plates just a little bit to fit them. I plan on doing it tomorrow with a jigsaw (as was recommended by another forum member.) Others have had 6x9's that slip right into the mounts. The enclosures are easy to remove, it just takes patience because there are a ton of bolts/screws. Take your time. Especially when replacing all the plastic panels. Even on the lightest setting, I cracked one of my dash bezels with my screw gun. Oh, and get yourself a bunch of dixie cups and a marker to keep track/label all the screws (doors, rear, enclosures, sills, etc.) It makes putting the car back together a whole lot easier! Be careful where you mount the amp. Don't want to drill through into something critical. I mounted my amp with velcro so that it would't slide. It's under the seat which makes for a fit tighter than a gnat's butt so theft was not a major concern and the velcro works just fine. Good luck.

Yes it is a typo. I got the 5.25" for the front. It is the Bose system. The rear have a 6.5" so I guess I will have to do a good bit of cutting.
1. Do I need to insulate the enclsures?
2. Is the carpet easy to pull up and replace, because I will be putting down sound deadening material and new wires?
3. I don't have room under my seats, so how should I mount the amp to the rear?

So your rears are a different size? That's definitely a difference from the early c4's. Unless you mean the mounting space size, in which case, yes, MDF is a great mounting material.

1. Do I need to insulate the enclsures?
Not too sure about this, but if you are inclined to insulate and doing it anway, it never hurts to quiet a c4 when possible. I didn't. I'm using the "bucket" half of my front Bose enclosures and making a new "cover" half of MDF with 5 1/4" holes to mount the speakers. Works well.

2. Is the carpet easy to pull up and replace, because I will be putting down sound deadening material and new wires?
Yes. Run your power wires down the driver's side and your speaker wires down the pass side.

3. I don't have room under my seats, so how should I mount the amp to the rear?
Can't help you too much here, but it's been recommended on the forum to make an amp box out of plywood or MDF so you can screw the amp into the box without worrying about screwing into something vital. Cover the box with some matching carpet for aesthetics. Not sure about how to secure the box because I haven't tried, but lots of people on the forum have and I'm sure will chime in, but you may have to wait until a weekday when forum traffic picks up.

First of all, a ’95 model Corvette has a different interior and different front speaker placement than Charlutz ’86 model. The ’86 model has the speakers in the doors where as the ’95 model has the front speakers on the frame rail (on the floor) in front of the seat. The rear speaker setup remains the same for all C4’s but the Verts and Coups have different rear speaker setups from each other.

For the coup you simply remove the entire Blose pod, which easily comes out after removing only a few screws around the edges under the carpet. It will have a ready made space to just drop a 6x9 speaker in and screw it down, no problem. You can even replace the stock speaker grill cover over it and no one will even know you have anything other than a stock setup.
Since the ’95 front speakers are on the frame rail then you will need to build out the top of the speaker cover after installing it as to have enough clearance for the grill from the speaker. 92TrippleBlack, from what I have read, has done this with his Vette and I’m sure he will be glad to tell you how he did it. I believe he build an entire new enclosure though.

As for the amp, if you wish to mount it on the rear wall of the hatch under the glass then you will need to build wall from MDF for the amp to secure to. Remove the carpet from the back by taking off the plastic hatch deck trim, unscrewing the carpet tabs and unhooking the rear carpet from the mounting screws. Pull the carpet back and you will see there is only some insulated carpet padding under it. Cut a piece of ¼” to ½” MDF to fit in that area and act as a foundation to mount the amp to. Since ¼" MDF is hard to find you may have to use ½”. Once the MDF is secured in place, replace the padding and carpet and screw your amp to the MDF over the carpet. Don’t forget to run your wires before replacing the interior carpet and trim. :D

Also, amps are best mounted horizontally (flat on the floor) however, when mounting an amp vertically like you will be, make sure the heat sink cooling fins are facing vertically (straight up and down) and not horizontally. It will help cool the amp better that way. :yesnod:

Hope this helps. :seeya

I believe my rears are 6.5" with a tuned port, so I will have to cut the top of the enclosure out, right? Would you fill the enclosures with fiber or any kind of sound deadening material or leave empty? I will be lining the rest of the car with the Frost King.

How would you suggest I mount the MDF for the amp? Just cut it to fit tight, velcro to the rear panel, glue, etc.?

NO, don't cut the pods. If you look far enough under the carpet you will see where the entire pod is screwed to the wheel well area. Just remove the entire pod all together in one piece. What is left is a ready-made place to mount a 6x9 and a hole that tunnels all the way back behind the rear fender.

Would you fill the enclosures with fiber or any kind of sound deadening material or leave empty?
Actually I sound dampened my entire car, including behind the speakers but to answer your question, yes, toss some polly fill in that hole I mentioned before and that will do fine. Do the same for all your enclosures.

How would you suggest I mount the MDF for the amp? Just cut it to fit tight, velcro to the rear panel, glue, etc.?
Under the carpet in the rear, you mentioned you wanted the amp on the rear wall under the hatch. Remove the carpet and cut the MDF to fit in that area. Mount it with construction adhesive. I have even seen it mounted with screws. You will have to remove all the carpet anyway when you install the Frost King, once all the carpet and padding is gone you will see what I am talking about.

Good luck. :seeya
