Default JVC head into C4 with Bose

I saw this cd player the other day, it does everything I need, and I like how unflashy it is. http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL026833

I've got a "hook-up", so my buddy can get it for me really cheap, so I'm not going to have it installed by a shop.

I've pulled my Bose-Delco player out of my 1987 Corvette to install some guages and lights. I have the wiring schematic, so that part won't be too hard...but what kind of things do I need to install one of these?

I've never installed a head unit before.

Any help is appreciated.

If you haven't got it I would skip it. I would ask your buddy if he can get poineer. They JVCs break easily and often. Regardless of which one you use, if you aren't replacing the speakers, you will need to get a power converter to make it work properly. The Bose system runs on a different current rating and is not compatable with other sterio equipment. A converter will run you $50, plus you will need a $20 kit and should get a $10 wiring harness. Special tools would include a test light or meter, crimpers and crimps.

The factory Bose operates on a low-level pre-amp signal to the amplified speakers at all 4 corners of the car so you will need the converter which is apx $100.00 (price varies on brand and vendor) for the aftermarket head units to drive its higher deck power into a low level pre-amp signal to the amplifiers and no you will not need another wiring harness because the converter has everything that you need which is plug and play. You can use the red butt splices for the crimp connections or solder and heat shrink. You can so all the connections on a bench top prior to installing everything.

You will need the mounting kit if you are installing a din size head unit in place of the factory 1.5 din. The installation is very easy and straight forward and can be done in less than 25 minutes.

You will actually need two of those OEM converters if you want true stereo separation. I have not seen them for less than $90 each. However, like Audiowizard said prices may vary per brand and location. 92TrippleBlack might steer you where to find them for less.

You might also want to rethink going this rout all together. Those OEM converters are not very reliable and you run the risk of damaging your HU and/or Blose amps by using them.

For the money you would have in trying to keep your Blose speakers you could have a nice set of aftermarket speakers for both the front and rear of the car and have much better SQ (Sound Quality) with them as well.

As said above you will need a mounting kit (METRA makes an excellent kit so ask for it by name) with aftermarket harness. The aftermarket harness is used so you won’t have to cut into the factory wiring harness to hook up your stereo, which is a no no. :nono:

I solder and heat shrink all of my connections but using bell or butt (crimp) connectors will be sufficient especially for a first time installer.

Good luck. :seeya
