What head unit(cd or cd and tape) can replace the stock one(looking for unit same size as stock)? I'm sure this has been beaten into the ground but I read tons of post and came up with nothing. Thanks for the help Eric.
Alpine does have one. Well they did make one. They don't seem to be producing it anymore  , there's no pic of it on their website.
I had one & while it filled up the space nicely, it just wasn't the look that I wanted. You may be able to find one for sale on Ebay. Good Luck!
 :seeya
Does this mean that everyone in the audio section uses the stock head unit? Can somebody throw me a bone(hopefully a picture of someones set up). Thanks, I really want to replace this Cavalier radio. :smash: :smash:
I just installed the Alpine CDA 7998. The face comes out of a single din to the size of 1.3 din. I was worried about the look of the cheap plastic adapter plates. The unit looks clean when extended. You can also set the screen to different angles. I went with the 6 disk MP3 changer, XM unit, MRV F540 amp, Infinity Bass link subwoofer amp enclosure, 4 Polk Momo MM6 separates with the midrange in the doors, tweeters on the columns and a custom enclosure for the rear set. The head unit has time delay adjustments for each speaker to set the sound stage. You can log onto Alpineusa and see all the goodies and read about the time settings. You can also download custom display settings. The site also helps you calculate the time settings.
I like the regular din radios. Why?
The special size radios cost more for the same features.
They have very few other applications making it tough to resell or take with you to your next car.
I think looks wise they are Fisher-Price with big buttons and displays.
Most lack even the basic feature needed to upgrade past a deck and 4 speakers.
I always recommend a single din and dash kit. The kits are good. For a 1.5 din opening I like the one that splits the difference putting 1/2 above and below the radio. For the double din, I like a din sized pocket to fill the hole.
