I currently have a SONY X-PLOD head unit, cassette deck that controls the 6 disc changer. I would like to get a SONY compatible head unit MP3 player for it...but still keep the changer. Any audio heads know if this is possible? I looked in Crutchfields online site and this one looks good and is affordable.
does anyone have one, how do you like it? Also, whats a good four channel amp for "MILD" sounds...I Don't want to go too crazy. Thanx. I have 5"1/4s in the sills, tweeters in the panels(MB Quart) and Clarion 6X9s out back. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...DXMP30&o=m&a=0
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (JD 90 383)
I have that one and love it so far. It hasn't skipped when I have been driving yet (only driven for a bout 2 hours so far but the roads are rough). I like the sound from it, and love the D-BASS feature. I don't like how it displays song titles, it doesn't scroll them when I change songs. Plus it will only display the first 30 characters which sucks as well. The scrolling thing may be configurable. I haven't checked it out yet, but the 30 character thing is hardcoded for sure.
Those aren't big problems since I know the songs anyhow and don't need to see the name when I am driving.

A friend of mine called today and He has a rockford fosgate mp3 changer. I forget how many disc..but I'm under the impression it holds mp3 data discs. Obviously you need a head unit that is compatible with it. Anyone have a configuration similar to this? that would be sweet to have six mp3s or so....hours of listening enjoyment!
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (JD 90 383)
I don't have one, but I plan to install one in the spring before heading down for Cruise in IV. Yes, you put discs full of mp3s in it and play them. You just change discs using the disc controls, and navigate the folders the same way you do with a single mp3 disk in the deck.
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (DF)
would I need a specific rockford head unit to control it?
That would be awesome....all those mp3's I don't think I'd be changing cdrs very frequently. Too bad they still can only hold 80 minutes. It's a lot better with mp3 data and 125 songs on a single cdr compared to 18 tracks.
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (JD 90 383)
My guess would be that yes, you do. Usually any current head units of a specific brand will control that specific brand's cd changers. But you may need one that supports MP3's. Best thing to do is check RF's website.
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (JD 90 383)
Hey JD,
I bought the sony mp3 as a gift for my cousin, and he loves it. I wanted to get him an alpine because it's the only head unit I have ever had that lasted a long time, but alpine wasn't out at the time......last year.
But then, later I bought an Alpine Mp3 player for my mom's honda accord. It's the 7894 model. It was about the same price as the sony because I got it from ebay...new, and It is more powerful, and looks awesome (much more serious looking if that makes any sense).
.
Well, I showed this unit to my cousin and he wants to sell his sony now and get the same alpine I bought for my mom.......ingrate! It sounds better, looks better and it just a really nice quality unit. I would highly recommend it, except I don't know if it will fit in the vette.
Now, with all these mp3 players I give as gifts, wouldn't you think that one of my relatives would get the hint and buy me one as a gift?
Oh, it has a defeat amp in case you want to mount an external amplifier..Btw alpine rates it at 60 watts and it does sound excellent in t he honda.......you would think there is an external amp attached. Another great feature is that the face swings out to different angles like 30 45 and 60 degrees or something like that.........very cool....cudos to alpine......Now, if someone can tell me what it will look like in the 96 vette, I am going to buy one.........eventually
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (JD 90 383)
Well, I know of a expensive route, maybe a little backwards too, but maybe worth a look. Kenwood makes a 10G changer set-up. You use your computer to tranfer and manage files through USB to a 10G cartridge. After downloading to the cartridge, you insert it into a cradle in the car hooked through a Kenwwod reciever w/ changer controls. The best part of the system is the file management and software to rip music and variable rates. I have played with it a lot and really like it.
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (M396 #00-011)
Let me just say your car m396 looks like it has ELECTRIC shine!!
I turned down a friend who was trying to sell me the rockford fosgate mp3 changer. Thanks for the suggestion. To add to my confusion..I called around a little and it seems there are two good models from Sony. The CDX mp30 which is less expensive....doesn't have the fancy tray to resist skips-shock...and doens't have the nutty colors the cdx mp70 does(that is about $100 more) now I am really twiddling my thumbs. E bay has a ton of them for around what I could get one for in NYC. It balances out with the cost of shipping on e bay.
I'll let ch'all know which one I selected. decisions, decisions!!!!

When I was looking at stuff I heard from some of the sales guys that Kenwood filed for Chapter 11. They were hardly getting in any Kenwood stock but were selling it dirt cheap. It is great to get it cheap, but I would be concerned about sinking a bunch of money into Kenwood stuff and have them go belly up. The Chapter 11 scared me off because that is an indication that things aren't going so well. It is possible that it was just Kenwood Canada, not Kenwood USA.
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (DF)
The CDX mp30 which is less expensive....doesn't have the fancy tray to resist skips-shock... It takes a hell of a lot to make the CDX-MP30 skip. Trust me :)
I know....it would seem technology is improving on single disc units. Sadly...my friend got rooked and spent nearly what an mp70 runs for last year....and it isn't even an mp3 player :( It's a clarion single disc cd player and it never EVER skipped. Not too sure if I need all the colors and bells-whistles the 70 has. :p:
Re: It's that time again MP3 Player questions? (M396 #00-011)
I like!!!! I thought I would just burn MP3s onto CD - this may actually save money long-term (unless you use CD-RW I suppose, but then you still don't have access to 10 gigs at once). Does Alpine make something like this? I would also like to know how fast the MP3s can transfer to cartridge. If I am not mistaken USB is relatively slow, I bet a Firewire version is in the making.

at last call to rockford, they said that they do not offer and have no plans to offer an MP3 multi disc changer!
they do however have what they call a memory stick changer that holds 8 memory sticks http://www.crutchfield.com/S-XBp2fa1...p?i=575RFXMP38 see it here, the problem is that is not compatible with all their decks!!!
a good amp recommendation....i am partial to rockford....both my systems are almost entirely comprised of rockford components! http://www.buyloud.com/product_detail.jsp?pid=2227
here's a nice 4 channel amp that should do you wonders....run 2 channels to the rear 6x9s and the other 2 to the front 4 speakers and you will be lovin life!!!!
