I'm looking at improving the sound system in my C5. A while back, I saw the Pioneer/Premier head units with their "Organic EL" displays. While the quality may or may not be great (I don't know), there is no doubt that the screensavers and displays are the coolest thing going. I am seriously considering one of these. What do you all think?? Keep in mind also that I'm on a shoestring budget here. No $1000 Alpines for me.
Kenwood Excelon KDC-x959
Nice player, plays CDR/RW, MP3's, and WMA's. Top of the line CD player with good sound quality and all X'overs built in. 2 year warranty. You can even burn pics into the screensaver using some simple software. About $500 range.
If you are buying them just for the screen you are throwing your money down the toilet. I looked at them and thought they were cool as well, but then I thought about it. What would I use it for? NOTHING! When I drive I don't look at the HU. I had read some reviews of them when I was chosing a HU and a lot of people found they were way too bright if you were night driving. You had to flip the face over because it was too distracting. What is the point in shelling out $100-$200 extra for that?

That is a VERY cool player, but is that a HONDA CIVIC on the screen???  :D
If you're looking for the cool factor, hit ebay and get a good condition Clarion AutoPC (310C). You can get the package with navigation, etc for $400 or so (I've seen them at $300, and for $500, you could get the 6 disc with it). Anyway, it'll play mp3, do voice control for basic functions, complete navigation setup (it'll even give you directions by voice) with reroute technology if you miss a turn, has capabilities for phone book, etc. It runs winCE, has no boot up time, will display any image you want, as well as play mp3, etc. You can run custom software to display current speed (by GPS satellites), quickest route info, etc...
worth a look, i have one in my old truck... :)

Check prices on ebay i payed half of what I would have at a store. I got a top of the line excellon which would have ran me 600 and i only paid 310. Good luck
Ok, I've been doing some checking on that Kenwood KDC-X959 and that thing ROCKS!!! Aside from all the audio capabilities, the "cool factor" really is off the chart! The idea of loading wallpaper and screensavers of your own creation into your CD player and actually having them show inside your car is really  .
Or...you can use the existing images and movies from the Kenwood site!!
