What head unit do you have? I've seen the option for a forward facing recorder on the droid head units from China. The camera mounts to the back of the rear view mirror.

Ordered a Kenwood DXX9903s from Dennis at DoubleD Mods. Won't get it until April. It has a input for a forward facing camera.
I haven't got the wiring completely finished yet, but I am installing a Clarion CC510 up under the front bumper within the wind tunnel leading to the condenser/radiator.
I made a bracket out of aluminum that is mounted to the center screw that attaches the bumper cover to the black plastic shroud.
The camera itself is actually mounted higher than the lowest point of the underside of the bumper and looking down at an angle that lets you see stop blocks and whatever else is approaching. This way it stays out of direct path of anything that may hit it and you can't see it unless you look under the bumper.
I also utilized the bracket to mount an outside air temperature sensor for the thermometer in the inside rearview mirror.
I don't have photos with me right now, but I'll take a photo and post it.
They aren't good photos, but here is what the camera looks like installed. I applied a 1/16" thick pad of silicone rubber to the base of the bracket, to keep anything metal from touching the paint.
Also, like I said, the wire routing isn't done, so the camera's wiring is just kinda hanging loose and you can see the two loose wires that go to the temperature sensor.
