I dont have any pics but I have built 12" 15" & 18" single subs in the C3 and C4. Any sub will work as long as you build the woofer cabinet correctly for the sub or subs in question. (i.e. ports, enclosure volume, etc....)
Which sub you use is up to your taste and budget. I have liked and used RF, a/d/s, JLs.
:)
i was just about to ask a similar question. i have a 12" Fosgate and the box takes up half my trunk space. how can i get some space back?
has anyone built a box like the ones they use on pickups that would fit close to the rear and take little space?

You can build woofer cabinets smaller but you will lose some bottom end grunt but it will play nice and tight with the smaller air-space. If you need help with a cabinet design, I can help you build one that will take up less space. Most RFs require apx 2.0 to 2.5 cubic feet per sub but I have built them smaller than spec and used the Audiocontrol Epicenter which is the nitrous so to speak for woofers and will make them pound.

Re: 12" Sub set up on a C4 (Audiowizard)
You can build up to a 2.6 cubic foot enclosure in the rear of a C4 and still be able to use your storage compartments and still be able to mount your targa top in the stock location in the back as well. You can also pull your cargo cover over it to conceal everything if you wish. I happen to have two 10” RF subs in my enclosure but you can easily install a 12” with that airspace. Fire it up toward the hatch glass for best bass response.
Here are a few pix of the C4 sub enclosure I built:

Re: 12" Sub set up on a C4 (BlackandMild1)
Thanks.
The amps are Rockford Fosgate. The 400.4 powers the Image Dynamic CXS62 separates up front at 2-Ohm stereo and the 500.2 is powering the RF subs at 4-Ohm mono. Everything is actively crossed over with the Almighty Design Reference DX-28. Oh...and of course...an Alpine HU.
