88 Bose Conversion
I have a couple of questions I need to clear up before I go make my purchases for a new audio system.
First of all, I bought a Pioneer DEH-6400 HU. I know that without an adapter, my stock Bose system will not work, and even with the adapter it will be less than optimal.
I'm looking for sizes, etc on existing equipment so I can start looking for equipment to replace it. For example, it looks to me like my rear speaker mount can take some 6 x 9's, but it has 6 and a halfs in it. Is this right? And if that's the case, will I run into any problem if putting 6 x 9's in instead?
I haven't gotten into my doors yet, but it seems like I saw somewhere in the forums that it has 5.25's in it. Is that right? And if it is, do you suggest staying with 5.25's or go to something different?
It seems like I also saw somewhere in the archives that my dash speakers are nonexistent even though I have the stereo grilling in the dash. I think I confirmed it by changing the focus to the front speakers and giving it some volume. Is it really empty in there? If it is, I plan on leaving it empty.
I don't want anything big and elaborate.. I'm only changing it in the first place because I want a CD player and I know I can't use my other Bose equipment with it. I'd like to put an amp in as well. Nothing big, maybe 75x4.. this would work out well for me if I had no front dash speakers.
Some cheap but capable recommendations would be appreciated, but I'm mostly looking for sizes and stuff. Thanks much.

That would be a very simplistic, non-elaborate stereo system that should yield decent sound quality. Of course, in the not too distant future you will probably want to add some subs to that, but that’s another post. ;)
