Find a local shop that has both brands on display. Even if they aren't the same models the user interface doesn't change much from one to the next. Play with them for a while and see which interface you prefer, I like the Pioneers
Do these head units work with the Bose Speakers? (assume they do) and is there a improvement over the stock Bose Unit?
Aftermarket HU's will work with the stock amp and speakers. It doesn't do much as the stock speakers are kinda junk. You can replace all of them but the door woofers without swapping the Bose amp. To swap the woofers requires a new amp, and at that point you might as well rip out the whole stock system.

Thanks, also assume the swap is plug and play with the right adapters? I was surprised at the low cost of swapping out the head unit, almost a must do with the older, non-blue tooth models. I'm sick of burning frickin' CDs,
