Anyone make a good 8" sub?

THanks!
is it the mounting diameter, or just enclosure space?
There are some 10's that do very well in small places, lik teh Image Dynamics speakers IDQ10
I think Image Dynamics makes 8's too, but I've not seen them in stores.
email rodb@caraudioinnovations.com maybe he can sell you some IDQ8's.
He's a good guy, I've given him lots of money

Just FYI, I have read that these drivers are very pick about an airtight sealed enclosure so make sure that they are airtight.

I was an installer for awhile and since moved to home theater. The comment about an 8" driver covering the range is incorrect. Here is a little primer about speakers...
1. Sound is created by displacing air
2. Speakers are just like car engines, they displace air.
3. The displacement of a speaker is calculated by multipling it's piston area (not including surround) by it's peak to peak stroke (often called excursion)
Now it's a relatively simple equation:
Displacement /sec = SPL
So the more displacement you have the more SPL you have. This means that a 8" speaker can reproduce 20hz@100db and so can a 15" speaker @100db the difference is the amount of excursion required from each speaker.
Here in lies the issues:
1. Mechanical: Can the speaker physically move to those excurion limits without tearing
2. Electrical: Can the coils generate the magnetics required to move to those limits at the required frequency, without melting.
3. Sonics***: Will the speaker still behave in a linear/controlled fasion at the desired limits. How will the weight of the piston change performance.
#3 is the big one. The sunfires can play pretty loud at 25hz, but they do it with a whoping %12 distortion, and nasty harmonics. My SVS tubes belt out 125db in my home theater at 30hz and over 100db at 15hz (12inch drivers). My point being that the higher excursion that a speaker has the more distortion and coloration that is produced.
Suggestion: A system comprised of a 7-8" driver for midbass 12-15" driver for sub-bass.
I will be writting an article, about the C5 install I will be doing for the magazine. I have loved the information you guys have provided about the C5, and your creative solutions to the problems.
I hope I was clear on the above.
