Amplifier mounting?

Amplifier mounting?
Hello all! I currently have my amp just laying in my rear hatch area but would like to mount it to the back of the hatch (the carpeted area right below hatch release). Is it safe to just drill holes through the carpet to mount amp in that area or is there something behind there I should watch out for? It's an "88. Thanks

I wouldn't drill or put screws anywhere that you don't know exactly what's behind it 
Best option would prob be to glue the wood to the plastic under the carpet, then bolt through carpet into wood.
