Default Boston Pro 125LF Sub round III

Well I blew up 2 of these things already and was ready to try something else, so I did. Rockford, Alpine and a few others. Couldn't stand any of them after knowing what the Boston sub sounds like. Not even close. Everything else sounds totally mushy, weak and bloated compared to the Boston and it really messes up the overall sound of my system. So the install guy agreed to pull my enclosure and lay a couple more coats of fiberglass, sure enough he found 3 pinholes in there and now that it's back in I'm hoping this time the Boston will stay together. These things are absolutely incredible but if you don't put them in an absolutely 100% airtight sealed box they will self destruct. If you think you know what a good sub sounds like you need to take a ride in my car, I'm sure any of the other subs would have been acceptible to me before I had the Boston but it has redefined my expectation of what a good system should sound like.

I'm with you only I'm still on number1. Maybe the MDF is easier to seal but I've never had a problem.

So in your opinion and I am not sure if you tried JL Audio, but do you think that Boston Acoustics is a better Sub than a JL Audio 12W6v2 or since the BA is a higher wattage sub how about the 12W7? Would be interesting to hear a comparison. I do not know what you have driving the sub but I would be interested in hearing what you think. How did a guy find 3 pin holes in your enclosure? How does the holes correlate to the sub blowing? Just curious.

Thanks,

Sure haven't what does it sound like? I am interested in opinions though. I have bought the components to finish my setup but haven't done anything with them yet, was waiting until this winter. If you all have opinions contrary to what I have then I will refund them and get something else.

I bought the JL Audio 500/1 and the 12W6v2. I can take either of them back to the store. What do you guys think?

Will the JL Audio Amp push the BA pro enough or is the IDMAX what I should check out? Opinions are greatly appreciated at this point prior to my building all of the stuff and mounting it all....

The boston is a different type of sound. The JL subs are boomier and the boston is tighter. If you want sound pressure, probably the JL. The boston makes plenty of spl for me however and I wanted the tightest cleanest bass as opposed to the car that bounces down the road. Depends what you are looking for. Would I trade for a w6.2, probably not. W7 or IDMAX, probably yes.

92:

I am a 100% disabled vet from 15 years of jumping out of planes and doing other stupid stuff to my body. I am not really into making the car hop down the road but I am a bit like you and like to hear the music tight, clean and clear. I am from the Metal side of the block though and like to hear it sounding nice and loud but not to win any spl comps. I like it nice and SQL. I think with the CDA-7998, the CDT Audio speakers and the JL Audio Amps it is sounding good. I am just stuck on the sub. I have the 12W6v2 now and can return it within 30 days. Not a problem. In your opinion I should go for the BA for nice tight sound?

Thanks,
