Default C5 Z06 Audio upgrade

I just recently purchased a double din bezel for my '01 Z, and want to start putting together an audio system. Car audio is perhaps my weakest point when it comes to cars so please excuse my ignorance/inaccurate info here.

I am looking into the Pioneer head units; perhaps the AVIC 5100NEX

I am learning about the complications of the factory bose system when adding an aftermarket amp and sub, so I'm going to ask some questions with a few different approaches.

Is it possible to replace the factory head unit with the pioneer, use the roem vet1 to work with the factory speakers, and then add like a JL audio stealth sub with its own amp and have it sound decent?

Other option is what would be involved to replace all the bose stuff? Speakers, adapters, new wiring, a good amp, and the subwoofer?

I guess I am asking for some experience on what most guys do to improve the sound and add some bass without going nuts as I don't plan on entering any stereo competitions any time soon

Thanks.

I would change it all, or leave it stock.

Yes, many have done that and it works well.

The only issue is that the stock speakers being driven by the HU will still be pretty weak.

Your best sounding option without going nuts would be to get a bridgeable 4-channel amp and components for the doors. Run the doors off amp channels 1/2 and bridge 3/4 together for the sub. You can still run the stock rears off of the HU internal amp.

If you don't want to buy the ROEM you don't really need it if you use an aftermarket amp. In C5 if you replace everything all you need from the car is power, which you can get in the footwell.
