I just got 2001 C5 conv. and I am wondering if I can take the stock stereo out and put in a Alpine iLx 007 touch screen unit , I have the 12 stack CD player and would like to integrate it with that system , it's my first corvette so pretty excited to get things going, any suggestions would be appreciated
I'm sure that you could figure out a way to make it work but you could put 50 or more CD's on a little flash drive. With your music on the flash drive you can see everything on the touch screen and It will load up a lot quicker.

The ILX007 is no longer available
being replaced by the 107
which is not expected to ship to June or July
You can NOT retain the cd changer with any radio of choice
Call me and I can help with all your needs as mentioned
Thanks
Dennis

Thanks Dennis, I am going to keep the factory stuff for awhile and upgrade later down the road, the inexpensive route has me plugging in my iPod to the cassette adapter , its not great but does the job for now
Cheers and thanks for the reply

always could get a used 007 model off ebay if you want to keep the costs down. worst part about a double din in the c5 is the price of the bezel. no one is making an inexpensive one
It cost a little to get a bezel from a good supplier like Denis.
Dennis actually knows how the interior of a Corvette works. He has studied this! He hand his team take pride in helping others.
For a lot of people the bezel seems like a major purchase.
I have never heard anyone complain about upgrading their cassette player to the modern era.
it's the cost for what it is. a piece of plastic like that only takes a couple dollars to make if someone setup the mold and if someone made a lot. there are many overpriced things on cars. the stitching in seats with a simple logo that's a 500 dollar add on etc. this just happens to be one of them. metra finally started making them but they have no interest in selling them inexpensive. no reason i suppose. if people will pay you take all the money you can from them
^That is true but what are the options? Yes, it is only a piece of molded plastic but I can't make one in my garage any cheaper. Maybe someone can 3D print one.
I'm just glad someone offered an affordable option. GM wants a lot more money for a stock bezel.

I just finished my bezel and it cost me about 5$ and my labor to do it. I didn't have to relocate the support bracket, cut the bezel between the HVAC controller or lower it. I used a Sound Stream VRN65HB head unit.
