I installed a Kenwood DDX9903s in my C5 in January. Once I chased down a defective RCA cable, everything worked as expected - good sound to the speakers, Apple Car Play for phone and music... Until this week.
When playing music from my iPhone, I get blank spots in the playback. Similar to a skip. The counter will continue on the screen, but there will be a blank of 1, 3, 10, sometimes up to 30 seconds of no music. During a blank, if I move to the tuner, there is no sound from there either for several seconds.
However, if I just use FM, I have no problems. Start the car listening to the radio and only the radio. Perfect. Even with the phone plugged in. Jump to Car Play and problems start again.
Of interest, the "EQ" on the home screen continues to register sound even during the blank spots.
I am quite perplexed. I haven't changed any of the inputs from last week... I might have thought a bad RCA, but I get ZERO sound. Not channel 1/2, or 3/4 or sub. Nada. And then works again. Also, if I stay radio, no problems. I thought maybe amp, but again, with radio only no problems.
Other Car Play features work fine - maps, phone, text, etc.
try playing off a cd or usb drive. there really should be no reason to stream from your phone unless it's net radio and if it's that it could be a bandwidth problem? if the usb drive works fine the issue is with carplay and auto android both of which aren't exactly optimized yet. you may notice that noise floor increase you get when connected . hopefully they refine this stuff over the next few years

Thanks for the feedback racebum. A couple of points of clarification. When you say "stream", to what do you refer? I am not streaming in the sense of bluetooth, but playing music through the lightning connector and Car Play. This is a primary use of the HU. Radio is simple antenna radio. Nothing more...

the lightning and usb connectors are the issue. for whatever reason the noise floor comes up when you plug in and that's one of the primary sources of play. that deck also has a rear usb and i would imagine you attached a cable. try installing a usb stick filled with music and play from there. it should get rid of the noise problem provided your phone is not also plugged in. i'm not 100% what causes it but i suspect a bandwidth / interface issue with the carplay / auto android
