Need speaker info for '89
I've already selected the headunit I want to go with, a Kenwood KDC-X659. What I would like to find out is what everyone's experience is with sizes for door speakers and rear speakers that do not require huge amounts of modifications. I know that a little bit of drilling will probably be required, I don't mind that. What I don't feel like messing with is building plates, etc, to make 6-1/2" speakers work in the doors, which is what I'm seeing.
Also, any suggestions on speaker brands that sound good would be appreciated as well. I'm currently leaning towards Infinity. :)
and in the doors, I mounted Focal 165w midranges (which are considerably deeper than infiniti speakers) and had to use a dremel to "make room" in the fiberglass for the speaker to fit through, and then a MDF mounting surface.

The doors are another story. You can easily put a 4” speaker in the stock Blose pod without any cutting, however, you won’t get any sound from that small a speaker set that low.
A 5.25” speaker can be set in the Blose pod with minimal cutting of the pod for diameter fit. In each of the above cases the stock speaker grill cover may be used to cover the aftermarket speakers for a clean, stealthy install.
A 6.5” speaker can be fit into the stock Blose location but will require both cutting of the pod and using a baffle (spacer) to allow for depth. MDF is a good choice of material to build a baffle from.
The dash has locations for 4x6 speakers. They are a good place to put either “plate” speakers or a small 4” mid 1” tweet comp set but will require a little cutting for proper fit. Not a difficult job though.
I would recommend you run amps to the speakers if possible.
Good luck.
6x9s sound good for the rear. As for the fronts, I think the 5.25 sounds like what I want. Would a component system for the doors work ? Where would the tweeter be best mounted at ?
On the amp, I assume I can get one amp to run all the speakers ? Any suggestions on where everyone is putting them ?
Suggestions on specs would be nice as well.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm a stereo newb. :)
