C6 '06 Vert NAV + Bose - Speaker and HU upgrade
Hi all!
Been reading and enjoying all of the knowledge on this forum, so thank you for that!
I'm not happy with the old Head Unit, so I will most likely get a Pioneer 4200NEX as I want Apple CarPlay and have read great reviews.
I want better sound and I've got 1 tweeter on the drivers side that's not kicking on until I turn the HU up quite high - so either I've got a bad wire or something is going on with the output of the Bose amp or HU. Also, honestly, the sounds really isn't good coming out of the standard system.
Want to clarify something before I pull the trigger on a new headunit and speakers.
I understand the Bose Amp changes the output of the HU to accommodate the speakers? Are the cables in any way different too, or can I use the existing wiring in the door (potentially with different connectors) or would I have to run new wires?
I'm expecting to opt out of adding an Amp at this point as I'm not adding a Sub and not sure the benefits are high enough to "just" drive new speakers... Thoughts on that comment?
I've done stereo installs in the past, but never done an Amp without a Sub, so I'm fighting without real knowledge here...
I'm looking to stay around $1000 for the complete install (which I will do myself) and with the required parts so far before speakers/amp, I'm at $568 which doesn't leave too much room in the budget...
Cost broken down as follows
Head unit 4200NEX: $460
Metra 95-3304: $10
PAC RP3-GM11 $57
Metra 40-GM10 GM Antenna Adapter: $7
Pyle PLCM38FRV Rear view and front view camera: $34 total
This leaves me around $430 for speakers, wires and potentially an Amp, which is another reason for not pushing to get an Amp and a Sub for now - don't want to go nuts on the budget.
Does anyone have recommendations on speaker choice?
And would I need speaker mounts like the ones sold by nakidparts -
