I have a 98 coupe, I just replaced my aftermarket Sony single din head unit with a Kenwood DDx9904s double din. I did not change much to the system beside hardwiring door speakers to the amp. I have a Kenwood kac7005ps (5 channel amp), lightning audio 5-1/4" component speaker system for the doors and I believe 3-way full range of the same brand for the rear. I also have a 10inch Pioneer sub. Before putting the interior back together I had tested the system and was absolutely stunning to hear, even at high volume. While out driving today the amp goes into protect mode whenever I turn volume past 12.
I know my ground is good and power wire. Like I said this same system with the exception of the head unit has always been in the car.
I am at a loss here any advice would truly help.
Thank you

first need to know what do you mean by hard-wiring the door speakers to the amp.
I bypassed factory harness speaker wiring. Also, I figured out in my ignorance after troubleshooting, that I had 1 single strand of copper wire from a front speaker, connected to the amp, touching the speaker wire above it causing the amp to go into protective mode. I will see if I can find some type of tubing to encase the speaker wires in to the amp.

Live and learn.
Thank you for your reply.
Use ferrules on your wiring to get better connection/protection. Well worth the small added cost.
So these ferrules are just pushed in the amp like speaker wire and I screw down on the amp. I believe thats what I am seeing. To bad I cannot find something like banana plugs like I have on my home receiver, but that would probably not work anyhow

I guess you have your answer. Strip the wire, stick the ferrule on and clamp down. A few bonuses... Keeps the wires together when sticking them into the orifice, gives the set screw something substantial to bite on, and provides the most wire contact to the amp, etc.
