I have my antenna mounted in the rear facia, so I know I wont get the best signal. I lost signal today when I went into a concrete parking garage. Is this normal> My only fear is that I am currently receiving the signal from a local tower, not the satelitte. So when I go on a long trip the xm wont work properly. Any thoughts.

Bingo, the joys of XM. Since there 2 Sats are not up to par for most things such as tall buildings, downtown areas and such, most of the time with XM, you ARE running off of a repeater. The approach angle of the Sats along the equator and your car in the US are not optimal. Not a whole lot you can do. Repeaters are scattered all over the US, as far as dropping out on trips, I think you will be fine. Although you will probably be jumping from tower to tower, the time spent on XM's Sats is actually very low.
As far as loosing service in the garage, I would say this is normal. Don't worry and try to enjoy!

Re: xm lost signal (M396 #00-011)
I have a few drop out areas where I live in East Tenn. The really only time it stays dropped out is when I drive up at the drive through at the bank, and then I turn it down to hear the girl at the window. I think it is normal to lose the signal in a parking garage. You will be fine.
Out on the road, you're actually receiving the satellite signal. You'll not have any problem at all, except for bridges (maybe) and tunnels. In other words, anyplace your antenna can't see the sky, you are at risk. In the metros, the ground repeaters ameliorate this, but they are NOT out in the countryside, where they aren't needed. As an aside, the system works just fine in rain (unlike satellite TV, where the signal attenuates enough to lose capture).
I've had XM for more than six months, have taken a number of lengthy road trips, and have driven in all sorts of weather. The system is simply terrific, with the caveats above.
In a parking garage, particularly underground, you'll not see the sky, nor be open to ground based signals. Once you reemerge, all will be well. I've done this a zillion times, and it's simply the price of admission for this sort of technology.
I was slightly concerned since my antenna is located IN the rear facia. I get perfect reception around town, but I am around town. i will be taking a lengthy trip to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. I will let you all know if I lose the signal and have to revert to Cd's./
My antenna is in my rear fascia too. I drove from PA to KY with almost no drop outs. As previously said, if there's no good view of the sky, you are at risk for signal loss. I can say that I drove through the tunnels of the PA turnpike and 95 and didn't lose signal. This is obviously due to a nearby repeater.
