Redoing complete audio in my c5. Head unit, speakers, wire, amp, subs
Im fed up. I cut factory harness. I bought metra harness . I paid a professional today to hook up my system. They hardwired my radio up and my car is shorting out now acting like it wants to die. I'm going to unplug everything having to do with the system. And start over. What all do i need to redo my whole system. COMPLETE AFTERMARKET. What secrets do you have for me. Please

Personally, I'd go back to who screwed up your car first but.....
The audio forum here is a good place to start. I installed a double DIN head unit, 5-channel amp, components in the doors, matched set in the rears, 10" sub in stealth box, wired everything, modified the dash to fit the double DIN (bezel was sent out for modification,) and added ports for 2 USBs and an AUX port in a 3D printed ashtray replacement piece all from information in that forum!
I did every bit of it myself.

There is no need to cut the factory harness with adapters in the $6 range. That is a butcher job that will cause a lot of confusion. for instance there are two orange wires. One is for aux power and the other is for the class 2 serial data buss. You will have to sort through all that mess and label the wires correctly. Do you have a meter?
Do you need to know the pin-out of the harness?
You'll have to be more specific about your install.
The mods will most likely move this thread to the audio section.

Wiring the entire stereo system separate from the rest of the cars wire harness isn't a big deal. A little time consuming to run wires to the amps, speakers, etc. but it can be done. All you need from the car is a hot source from the fuse box, switched source for the fuse box and a good ground.
