Anyone using the OEM-1 converter from Tune-Town that allows the Bose HU to be replaced by a different brand without removing all the Bose amps etc. I've seen a couple of comments here about one person using it.
Just curious if any others are using this technology and if there are any serious tradeoffs like fidelity.
I would like to replace my Bose system in steps instead of spending the bucks to do the whole thing at once. First step would be a new HU plus an XM tuner. Second step would be to add new speakers and amps plus a sub. It seems this gadget would allow me to do this easily. Are there any other adapters of this type on the market other than Tune-Town? Is anyone else using different technology to accomplish this?

Re: Bose system adapter (unclemeat)
All I can tell you is....don't waste your money on the OEM converter. Not only will you loose a lot of sound but they don’t work very well either. You run the risk of damaging your new Head Unit and/or Bose amps. They cost around $80 to $90 each and you will need two of them for stereo separation. For that price, you can buy aftermarket speakers and just run them off your new aftermarket HU till you save up enough money to buy amps and subs.
Simply remove the entire Bose system and set it away in a closet in case you decide some day to sell the Vette. You can then replace the Blose system at that time and keep the aftermarket equipment you are buying for the next car you get.

Re: Bose system adapter (unclemeat)
unclemeat, are you talking about the OEM converter for the C4 Bose system or for the C5? Because they are two totaly different systems. Do you own a C4 or C5? Please specify. If you own a C5 then disregard everything I wrote in my previous post since it does not apply to the C5 system. If you own a C4, then don't waste your money on it.
Sorry I didn't specify the model. I've got a C5 (99). Others seem to use this unit with no hassle. I'm just wondering if it could cause problems as you mentioned and if this is a common practice known to and accepted by professional installers.
