replace bose in c6
1. From what I have read, it seems that the Bose speakers have separate amplifiers attached to them. Is this correct? If so, is there any issue with connecting the head unit to them?
2. Does the Bose NAV system have a separate power amp? If so, should I replace it? I don't need a huge amount of power for the subwoofers that I would install.
3. The Kenwood head has 3 5-volt pre-outs. I assume that would cover the tweeters, mid-woofers in the doors, and subwoofer(s). I am thinking about replacing the rear speakers with good subwoofers of the same size, in the same location. Does this make sense? Would the existing rear speakers function adequately as subwoofers if the crossover in the head unit is adjusted correctly?
4. I am planning to disconnect the center speaker in the dash. Is this the generally accepted recommendation? Is there any reason to keep it connected?
I am not really educated when it comes to car audio systems, but I can tell you that to my ears the existing Bose NAV system in this 2006 Corvette sounds terrible even when the EQ and faders are adjusted as has been recommended in other threads. The stock Infinity system in my 2005 Crossfire sounded much better than the Corvette's and when I replaced the head with a new Kenwood, it became astoundingly great. No new amp or speakers needed. I am hoping that I can achieve similar results in the Corvette.
If I hijacked the OP's thread, I apologize. I hope that he can learn something from your responses to my questions. If necessary, I can start another thread.
