Has anyone installed a CD player in their 96 (if year matters), and:
- Is it fairly easy?
- Does it require lots of, or any, mods?
- Does any particular brand install easier than others? (I am partial to Pioneer)
I have done installs in other cars in the past, but I have heard that Vettes are more difficult?
Thanks

Well, mine wasn't very difficult (1985) but difficult is a relative term :)

There were no mods that had to be done. I just bought a Metra adapter to fit the DIN cd player into the DIN and a 1/2 area.
I doubt that any brand would be easier than any other since they all have a wiring harness (to the best of my knowledge).

I assume you have Blose. right?
if so, it is tricky...
there are a lot of parts that should be yanked.
the speakers won't work with an aftermarket head unit unless you use the adaptors. and they do nothing but create noise. yuck.
the tuner module is behind the glovebox...
I am using a Pioneer FHP4400 head unit. they have a newer version, that is quite good and is XM ready.
These are the double DIN units that fit in the hole we have!!! and fits PERFECTLY.

I realized afterwords that I should have posted this in the audio section...but, I don't have a Bose stereo. As far as I know, it's just a Delco. No Bose labels anywhere.

yer lucky. I realized afterwords that I should have posted this in the audio section...but, I don't have a Bose stereo. As far as I know, it's just a Delco. No Bose labels anywhere.
I really don't know what that requires... we all have Bose to worry about!!!
theoretically, it should be easier... but I don't know if the Delco has the separate tuners or not...
mine was easy for me
1 - rip old stereo out
2 - rip crappy old speakers out
3 - rip crappy bose amps out
4 - run wires from the dash to the back or however you are going to set yours up
5 - install everything
I have a new head unit with RCA cables going up under the dash, then on to behind my passenger seat where i have my amps. I then have 2 wires running back up front dash speakers (i took the door ones out, my feet dont need music) and 2 running to the back speakers. Then i have another one running to the sub box in the back.
I have 4x6's in the dash and 6x9's in the rear with a 10" JL sub in a sealed box directly behind my drivers seat...
as soon as my custom sub box and amp deck is finished being build, then i have 2 12" aluminum subs (500w RMS each w/1000w Peak) going in to rattle all my bolts out LOL

I have a pioneer single din, a four channel amp (MTX) and a pair of polk 6x9 speakers. My current Bose has not gone bad yet, should I replace it with this stuff???? I have it sitting around and would just need to replace the fronts. What the concensus??
