As of now I have a Pioneer head unit and that is it. I want to swap out all 4 of the god awful Bose speakers but I am not sure of what to buy. Do I need to buy only the 4 after market speakers? Or do I need to buy any adapters? Any extra wires? And if I do need extra wires, do I need a specific diagram to re-solder? Let me know what you think!
I think I would then just bypass the existing wiring completely, run new speaker wires to all 4 speaker locations and wire to your head unit OR go one step further and buy a 4 channel amp and wire the speakers to it. If you plan to stay with just the head unit for power I would recommend speakers with a fairly high efficiency rating (90 db, 1w1m) at a minimum so the head unit has enough power to drive them. 6 1/2 or 6 3/4" components in the front and 5 1/4" coaxials in the back is what I would look for (5 1/4 is what fits in a FRC or Z06) not positive on other models.
If you want to go one step further, get a decent 5 channel amp and add a subwoofer in the rear sump location and you would have a pretty decent system.
