Re: Moving A/C controls to the ashtray location? (VT)
From 1 (easy) to 10 (PITA) ... it's a 5. I think it took me around 8 hours to move the controls and cut the console to fit. You could do it in a few hours - but I took my time to make sure that I didn't over-cut the console. You have to be careful when cutting - the contour lines on the console aren't perfectly square. I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel to trim out the console. Also, plan on using some spacers behind the controls to push them out toward the console - it didn't look right until I did that. One more tip - the plastic guides on the console that go into the frame can weaken after 50+ inserts/removals ... watch them - if they get weak, reinforce them with epoxy.
Now when you get ready to cut that console center horizontal bar out (the one between the radio and former location of the A/C controls) to put in a monitor ... that is a big PITA to do - and matching the paint is a pain as well. Seems simple, but I bet I put 50 hours on that part alone.
You can definitely do-it-yourself on this project if you're comfortable cutting into the console. Take your time and it should turn out well.
