1991 Vette Install
Have a few critical questions....
Where do I find an adapter kit for my headunit...going with the cdx-mp70....(single din) and how much does it cost? Please post link
Where do I find the harness? Please post link
What's up with the cdm...Do I remove it or just leave it there??
Any ideas about speaker installation...I'm going with 6 1/2's in the front and 6x9's in the rear....Obviously gotta yank the bose enclosures....any ideas about modifying these speaker locations to accept these speakers?
The 6x9's have to be enclosed from the gaping space I saw the last time I checked it out..to much loss of bass....any ideas?
Thought about mounting the 6 1/2's on the box panel (hides the bose fronts)..but not too sure yet.....All responses are GREATLY appreciated....thanks!
adaptors can be had at Sears. The wiring ones that is. Walmart has the din adaptors. They are as good as any. You may have to cut your dashboard bezel. Buy a spare.
getting the 6x9s in the rear is NO PROBLEM. I mounted some pioneer 6x9's in a rough mounting plate. It wasnt perfectly sealed, and they slammed pretty well for 6x9's.
6x9's aren't designed for a small sealed box.. but rather to be in a "trunk size" enclosure. They will be fine in there.
As far as fronts being 6.5s.. that will take some fabrication. I most commonly see 4x6's or 4" component sets up front. Sometimes 5.25.
I used to have a Pioneer. I went to Clarion, and the Clarion sounds better. Alpine also kicks butt, and eventually I'll move to that.

The front will fit 6 1/2" but it needs alot of work. I ended up making custom boxes to replace the stock boxes and speaker covers so I could fit mine.
I would say to go with good 5 1/4" and work them into the boxes or make your own behind the grills. I like the boston RX speakers for most basic to midlevel applications. try http://www.tms-electronics.com to get each pair (rx57 and rx97) for around 125-150$. They will work well with and without an amp. Try http://www.pricegrabber.com for a deck. Pioneer 7400 or an alpine is probably the way to go. This pioneer is a higher level one than Kale had and has MP3 but the alpine will probably sound better.
Infinity Reference 605cs 6 1/2 components
Infinity Reference 6952i 6x9 2-way
Pretty good deal through crutchfield right now
What do you guys think? Is that good or any other suggestions....I'd like to keep the two pair under 300
thanks guys
the nice thing about these, is you can get a good set of components, and FREE rear speakers. (Run the rears off head unit power, they are really not important) and run the front speakers from 80-100x2 or so
http://thezeb.com/caraudio/CDT_Audio_Components.html
Look at the CDT Audio Classics.
6.5 2 way component system - $269
I'm going with CDT Classics for my truck (When I have the fundage)
and for amps... http://thezeb.com/caraudio/us_acoustics.html
MHO, the best low cost amp. They are no arc/zapco, but blow away sony/pioneer/jensen/etc
the USX2080 is $84.99 and delivers 80x2
Infinity Reference Component 6 1/2 2-ways (605cs)
Infinity Kappa 6x9 2-ways (692.5i)
I'm getting a Special deal on them right now....
For the price of less than 250...
any comments??
Kale - Good suggestion for the CDT's. Just needed them to drop a little in price...I will keep in mind for my buddies..thanks

Of course, if you aren't running an amplifier, you dont want hte CDT components anyway, they wont do very well on the 12-17 watts made from your head unit.
the CDT's are $269

I consider myself a quasi-audiophile and have concluded.....there is no "absolute sound" so just buy whatever you think sounds good and just listen to the darn music. Otherwise you will always be comparing and consumed with what ever someone else thinks is better! :jester
For example http://www.mmxpress.com has the same speakers for $210. Not that they are any good. The reference series from infinity is their lowest line. Their highest line would compare to the quality of the Bostons I recommended that cost about $280 for all 4 speakers, and then we go up from there. Those 6x9s are total crap. Don't waste your money on a high priced over rated marketer and get bad equipment. If you want infinity, at least look at Kappa or Perfect stuff from them.
If you want components, look at Boston RC series and JL XR seperates for lower end seperates that perform well. :yesnod:
You could also just do the front or rear and then do the rest later. A pair of good speakers will sound better than 4 bad ones.

Exactly. If funds are an issue then just do one part of the system first. Then save up and do another part. May as well do it right the first time. If you buy crappy stuff you won’t be happy and will want to upgrade, and that will cost even more money. Just take it one step at a time and buy stuff when you have the money to do so. Like 92TripleBlack said, one set of good speakers will sound better than four bad ones. :yesnod:
