Default 89 antenna problem on aftermarket JVC radio

I just installed a JVC radio in my 89.
The problem that I'm having is that as soon as I turn the ignition on, the antenna goes up whether the radio is on or not. Other than this, the unit works perfectly.
I have the pink antenna wire hooked up to the red ignition power wire. Just as it was on the previous radio, an aftermarket Pioneer.
There must be a way for the antenna to operate correctly without the use of a toggle switch.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

depending on your JVC uhit,, you should have a blue and blue with white wire. Connect the pink wire from your antenna to the blue wire of the radio and not the ignition wire.

Vince is correct, the way to have it wired it is working correctly.. usually radios have a remote wire and a Power antenna wire, this will then give you the correct functionality for the antenna.. remote for amps and Power antenna for the antenna (Obviously). the antenna works only when radio it on.

The Blue & the Blue/White wires are labeled for the Steering Wheel & P. Cond.
I haven't tried it yet but hopefully it works.

this will help:
https://www33.jvckenwood.com/pdfs/B5A-2125-00.pdf

Antenna will always be up with this radio, it only has a remote (for amps) not a separate one for the antenna

Manual switch or buy a new radio with the power antenna control

If you wire it to the p control, it'll be up only when the radio is on.

So, you're saying that if the antenna is connected to the P.Cond. wire it should only go up when the radio is turned on?

Yes. It's a 12v out when the radio is on.

I hooked it up to the P.Cond. wire today and it worked. The antenna retracts when the radio is off.
Thanks for your help
