Should I ask how bad is that amp instead :D?
Does any one have one???
Planning to get it for my sub but still wanna get Eclipse 34230 for my sub since I will run Eclipse 32440 for my front and rear ...
thanks
That amp(I don't have one but a friend does), sounds good at normal volumes and great when cranked. I don't really like the sound of most class D amps, but the JBL sounds better than most class D amps I have heard. (And it looks great too!) :yesnod:
Thanks but it's not that expensive ... I can get one for 250$ online.
Many people here buying 1000$ amp for their sub :D
For the cheap amp, 100$ can get a Crunch 1000 Watts amp (not a real wattage). I got a V drive Crunch in my old car for 6 years and it working great ... It is the same company with Hifonics and hifonics amps are one of the best amp ... but many bad reviews from Crunch amp so I may go with JBL. Well, thanks
You have to remember, I don't drive a Vette...$250 bucks for me is a little bit of a stretch, seeing as I already have a decent amp, even if it is inefficient(Profile 600sx - 450 watts rms). It is a class AB, so it sounds great, but sucks a lot of current. It sounds good enough and I couldn't justify spending 250 bucks on another.

So the amp that sucks a lot of current is not a good amp? I have read many review for that JBL and people saying that it uses a lot of current. If you don't have a cap, it may not work !!!
Thanks

Amps that pull a lot of current aren't crap. Sorry if I made it sound that way. My amp is inefficient because it is class AB.
The more powerful an amp is, the more current it will pull. The efficiency at that power is what distinguishes different types of amplifiers. Class AB amps sound really good, and can drive any type of speaker, though their efficiency is around 50-60% at full power. Class D amps don't sound quite as good as Class AB amps, and they can only drive subs(most of the time), but their efficiency is usually 65-70% at full power.
I.E. a 1000 watt amp will pull
Class AB at 55% efficiency = 1818 watts, or 130 amps
Class D at 70% efficiency = 1430 watts, or 103 amps
Basically, class D amps will play louder with the same amount of power drawn. With a stock alternator, you should probobly get a class D amp. Adding a cap will not help when you are over your alternator amperage, they just help transients(ie drumbeats).
I think the stock alternator on a new vette will support up to 600 watts continuous power from a class D, or about 450 with a class AB.
