Got 2 12w3 D4's coming in...and this might sound funny...but can someone give me the rear dimensions of the hatchback area...I'm at school in San Luis Obispo and I'm driving a "bearing-bustin" 99 Grand Cherokee....don't get me started on that POS....I mean SUV...The 91 vette is down in San Diego getting a complete rebuild...yay!!!....I need height from rear hatch floor to the rear deck lid, and length from hump to hump (rear speaker humps)....Pics of installed systems with 2 12's in an approx 2.5cu/ft RECTANGLE box would be AWESOME!!! I've seen that one pic floating around with 2 Rf's under the roof panel....come out wherever you are...
I can't email anyone....Stupid place blocked my email server from sending mail to outside servers....Anyone care to help me out here....Just need 5 minutes of your time
Two in a vette? That's gonna be some bass pounding. Can't help on the measurements because I have a coupe. Make sure you get enough power to run them right. Should sound great. Skip the 6x9 idea in the back and stick with the components in the front. If you want later you could add coax 6 1/2" in the back but it isn't necessary. Try it without them first and see how you like it.
Thanks for the rough estimates......I've got MTX's going in....Have 600 watts powering them..don't need too much....and with those CDT's, they should compliment each other quite nicely
if you got exact measurements...that's great....but thanks for the estimates
yeah..not going with the jl's..over priced and a little much on the wattage...don't need that much pain in my ears....so mtx...plus I've heard the one's I'm getting and their perfect for what I want
A single JL12w3 will sound better than a pair of MTX's. MTX has no sound quality, and some SPL.
They are good for being under $100, though.
I'm running a SINGLE 10" speaker (an IDQ10) which is a sound quality sub, not one made to get loud... and it plays at over 126DB at the right frequency... with 230+ watts. 115db is the threshold of pain/hearing loss. Something you might want to keep in mind when running subs in a c4.
Remmeber, the less subs the better.. Less weight, less taxing on the electrical system.
I'll get hte measurements tonight, and post the hatch box design ideas I came up with in Lightwave tonight.
well...My dad is working out all the numbers...To get the block bored over and all that other nonsense is gonna be 230 on the nose...I can get the place's name if you want. You can order a rebuild kit through Summit. Costs 400 or so..something like that...numbers are a little rough to me. But it came in 1 day.
As for the valve train:
Edelbrock Centerbolt heads 60cc..I think it's 2.00/1.50 intake/exhaust..1100.00 no matter where you go. I wanted to go AFR's, and if you have the money, definitely go with them..their 1800.00
TPIS ZZ-9 Camshaft 483/520 at .050 212/226
One of the best cams you can go with for the vette and closest to smog limits....My buddy told me he almost didn't pass with it..but he had a 350 corvette engine in an older porsche. Cost is 375.00
Crane 1.5 Roller rockers..don't want to get too radical with the lift quite yet...I'm not trying to snap my neck here..just get a good rush at the line...Not sure how much these cost..you can check at Summit though
Ported and polished plenum..haven't gotten the price on that job yet
Grind the crankshaft...that's included in the bore job
new timing chain and gear...yadda yadda yadda
and to top it all off, a Raptor Jr. 700R4 tranny with 2200 stall..1200.00 shipped to your door
I'd like to go with a mini ram sometime in the future..but the rebuild is definitely first priority.
oh btw....where did you go to get that headunit installed..or did you install it yourself....I'm putting a system in my car right now and I'd love it if you could give me the info on the face plate adapter kit you got...Haven't been successful yet there...Nice install none the less. How much of a B**** was it to put in?....could you give me some pics of your system...I have CDT's going in... 6 1/2's all the way around with the mtx's to compliment the bass....I'd love some pictures of your install....i.e.....speaker installs and modifications....

I installed a pocket to fill the hole from metra. It will hold whatever and is set up for four CD cases. As to the subs, I'm with Kale, One good 10" sub will outthump 2 so so 12" subs. The MTX are fair at best. You would get more bass and save more cargo area and less weight with a single JL 12W3.2 or similar sub.
Just replaced my 12" XPL with a 12W3V2D2, pushed with a JL Audio 500/5.
The XPL kicked but the JL hits hard even at low volume and is very crisp.
Two 12"s, o'boy!!! Enjoy!!!

you might be a little happier with a superram on that engine, you could do a miniram but i'd upgrade to the 409 cam if you do. as you can see from my sig i have a miniram & to be honest the power hits hard over 5000rpm but below that a superram is stronger. if you plan on spinning the engine to 6800rpm or so and run around 11:1 compression AND have a deep rear end gear the miniram will scream. however more cam than a zz9 will definatly help that 5000-6800rpm hyd roller powerband. also mtx makes great amps, espessialy there mono blocks, don't let these guys fool you. :p:
