HU Dash Kit for a 92 coupe?
Here is the part # that fit underneath the Alpine.
88-00-9000 Metra Multi-purpose pocket
If you have the same trim then it works behind it. There are many parts in the bag. I used the thicker bezel behind the stock trim.
My home job included a "frame" to hold the Alpine to the Metra pocket. I used two side radio brackets in the rear sides.
The front was Home Depot garage door opener holder bracket, bent all around to create a "front frame" screwed to the din pocket front. Take your time and think about it.
The radio and the pocket became an assembly unit. There is nothing to bolt it too but it fits snug. Foam works for the base and to fill in the lower gaps.
I also dremmeled (I don't suggest you do it) * be very cautious there are harnesses around the top of the box if you do it* the black box in dash and it was a biatch but there is good airflow and room to work.
This is provided the 92 is the same as the 90 good luck. :smash:
But I put my deck on the bottom to make it more stable. Also was able to angle the pocket down more in the rear so gravity would hold more objects under acceleration and I no longer punch the head unit buttons during shifting.
See my "C4 bose head unit and Speaker replacement" thread for my picture of the finished product.
- The 1990 has a 1 & 1/2 din sized opening.
- You will need one or both of the following Antenna adapters;
Metra 40-GM10 mini plug to aftermarket antenna adapter
It was just a bit short so I got a universal Extension cable, 3 ft I think.
- When looking at the removed Bose opening, note the peg hole in the back, guide pin and support for the Bose.
- I cut a horizontal line accross the back of the box from the MIDDLE of the hole.
- This will support the rear of the Alpine as it goes deeper into the cavity.
- I also had to extend the Alpine harness about 3 ft to reach the CDM where the METRA 21 pin interface meets the factory harness plugs that are accessible from the CDM. There you will get, 12 volt fixed, 12v switched, power antenna lead and ground....and what I overlooked, the darn antenna line itself, pull hard to get that biatch out.
- It required alot of soldering, you can use butt connectors but I don't use them since soldering guarentees connectivity.
- Once you cut the rear of the box there is room to drape the cables from the rear of the radio into the crevice behind the black Bose box.
- I have had this done for about 2 weeks and love it. Triple92 had a good idea in angle for the Metra pocket. Under hard acceleration, CD jewel cases will fly out. However, I use only the lower holder with the mini-jewel cases for stacking. The center console still has tons o' room for CD's so mine is more for asthetics and less for holding CD's.
- Final suggestion is to drill holes in the upper part of the pocket for venitilation. I only wish someone else had done this and documented it. It does require patience and alot of time to do it right. If you rush it, you'll may screw it up.
