1998 Stereo Wiring
When the bose head unit is removed from the wire harness the accessories power lead is disconnected by the pcm. The acc wire is what 'tells' your headunit to turn on so you'll have to tap into some other source for this. The easiest place to tap this lead from is fuse number 22 under the passenger floor board.

I added an aftermarket Headunit but it won't turn on, what do i do now?

The OEM headunit doesn't need an Accessory Switched power connection. It only has an always ON connection that fullfil both functions explained above. The reason this is possible is because the OEM headunit is controlled by the PCM through the Serial Data Bus and you can only turn it ON if the PCM has previously sent to the headunit an enabling command as a result of the ignition switch being in the ACC or running position. That's why the headunit's OEM harness lacks this connection (it is NOT that "when the OEM headunit was removed the PCM disconnects the accessory power lead").
You don't mention if you are doing an installation after removing everything, or if you're just replacing the headunit keeping the original infrastructure. If the latter, you would need to use an adapter interface (usually AXXESS or PAC). The AXXESS adapter interfaces with the Serial Data Bus and allows you to connect an aftermarket headunit without having to bring an additional Accessory Switched wire. For the same reason it also allows you to retain the RAP feature.
If you need to source an Accessory Switched connection it can be easily brought from an unused harness (except '04) in the passenger's footwell that has 3 wires (yellow: switched via Fuse 11, orange: always hot via Fuse 7 and black: ground).
Hope this helps

- When the bose head unit is removed from the wire harness, the accessories power lead is disconnected by the pcm. - This is clearly saying 2 things:
- There is a physical wire in the OEM harness carrying Accessory Switched power
- This wire is automatically unpowered by the PCM when the OEM headunit is removed.
None of that is true. The headunit's OEM harness DOES NOT have an Accessory Switched wire.
- The acc wire is what 'tells' your headunit to turn on - This is basically saying that the Accessory Switched power wire is a trigger like the Blue/White wire used to remotely turn ON an external amp.
That is wrong. The Accessory Switched power wire is NOT a trigger.
Because the above mentioned wire harness was installed by GM for the specific purpose of powering accessories, but remained unused. It is definitely cleaner than piggybacking anything to the fuse box.
