Default Full stereo build on C5 Z06

Ok after multiple different questions and a couple of threads asking more questions, I finally ordered all the stuff for my stereo build. I have already installed the H/U. It's a Pioneer 3500. The H/U is a S/D but with a fold out face.

I decided to go with focal 165AS components in the front and focal 130AS in the rear.
I went with a 12" Rockford Fosgate P3 dual voice coil @ 4ohms.
I will power everything with a JL Audio RD 900.5
I got a NVX 6 channel amp wiring kit.

I started with running the power wire for the amp. The NVX kit came with 4 gauge power wire and 100amp inline fuse. I'm very impressed with the NVX kit so far. I ran the power wire through the wiring loom boot behind the battery. (same place everyone else has used)

Next up it's time for sound deading for the Vette. This is a long and tedious process not to mention hard on your back due to leaning over the car the whole time. I also added sound deading material behind the 5 1/4" rear speakers. I"m not quite done yet but here is where I am so far.

I also did some test fitting with the rear speakers. Like everyone else the rear speakers didn't fit. The speaker hit on the outer wall. I seen where some people ordered spacers but since the Bose speakers were shot, I pried the plastic ring off the Bose speaker. I used the rings and that gave me the clearance needed.

Hopefully I will get some more done this week.

I ran the pre amp RCAs and the remote turn on wire from the head unit back to the amp. I also got the ground wire ran. I used the factory ground point on the passenger side between the two seat belt points. See picture below. I will say that the ground wire sent with the NVX kit was way to short to use on the Vette. I had some rockford 4awg wire from a pervious build to use.

I finished installing both rear 51/4 speakers. I hooked up the rear speakers and the amp to check my power, ground, and remote and also to make sure both speakers worked and the amp for the matter too! I will test the front components before I install them as well.

I was able to get the passenger door apart and get the sound deading material and new 14awg speaker wire in the door this evening. That is all I had time for this evening.

I finished up the sound deading in the driver door. I also got the front components mounted on the new plastic plates I ordered from amazon. The plastic plates didn't exactly line up very well. I had to enlarge the holes for everything to line up. Also the Focal crossovers are huge. So that didn't leave a lot of places to put the crossover.

I got both components installed in the doors. Now I just need to test everything tomorrow before I put the doors back together.

How thick are the adapter plates from amazon?
Do you feel like they are strong enough?

The plates are prob 1/4 inch thick. I think they are strong enough due to all the mounting holes. The plate is held on by 6 screws.

I got the carpet back in the car. Now I need to figure out where to mount the amp. It won't fit under the passenger seat.

Take a look at the pics. Granted it would be mounted higher but would you mount inside or in the trunk area?

I still haven't decided on where to put the amp so I figured I would get started on the sub box. I bought one of these for my Rockford Fosgate 12' P3.

Amazon Amazon

The write up says the sub box had a 7 3/8 mounting depth. The mounting depth was not even close to advertised. I think you may have been able to get something with a depth of about 4 inches in the box. Since I opened the box for the sub, I couldn't send the sub back for something with a shallow mounting depth so I had to work a new box design.

Since the box was fairly cheap and it had the correct angles for the C5 trunk, I kept the box and decided to modify it. I did a bunch of research on here and on youtube and came up with the idea to just add to the box to get me the depth needed.

I peeled the carpet off the top and the cut out the center section on the purchased box. I then took the stock trunk cover and traced it out to get my box base plate size. I also wanted to give the sub an angle in the box to give me more room in the box for mounting, due to the huge magnet on the Fosgate P3 sub. I was hoping for more angle to try and face the sub more toward the cabin but it worked out I guess.

After I got the angle pieces built I mounted the new base plate to the old box. After that I put the final top on and cut it out for the 12" sub.

Last part was one more test fit in the car. Now I have to wait to for the sealant to dry and then I will try and get the box carpeted in the next couple of days.

The box is pretty darn heavy. I also have no clue now how much air space I have. The original sub box claimed .85 but the box was very small so I don't think that was correct. Anyone have a good way to figure out air space?

Looks like you are well on your way! I did a similar build years ago on my 99 vert. I ended up with a sub that had a travel distance that was too far to tuck in under the cargo plate (jl audio w3 I think), so I had to improvise and it now sticks out from the "floor" of the trunk. It's been a while since I posted on here, but I'll try to add a pic shortly. Reason I came back to lurking is that it looks like my kenwood single din head unit may have passed on, and I'm thinking about a new head unit. How do you like the one for your build so far? Seems like the touch screen would be nice. I might soon be in the market, although I just looked it up and its a bit pricey!

The carpet doesn't match very well, but I was tired of looking for stuff that did lol.

I really like the pioneer H/U I have. The features are very nice. The apple play works very well. It has a built in a 11 band eq and it has a ton of extra controls for the amp and 3 sets of preamp out puts. It will play DVD's and it has input for front and rear cameras. I would definitely buy it again.

I used 16 awg wiring on my components and rear speakers. Will the 16awg work for the Sub wiring or do I need to step up to 12 awg for the sub wiring? Looking at 500watt RMS for the amp and sub.

I believe mine has 4awg for the power and 12 awg from the amp to the sub. Here's a pic.

Fill it up with rice or sand or something similar, and then measure the volume of the rice/sand. Just borrow the kitchen measuring cup from your wife and to convert cups to cubic feet, multiply by .00836

If you decide to use rice, you might need to go to the supermarket to buy a few bags, but then you'll have enough supplies for the holidays

I was able to get some of the wiring finished up on the amp. I used Ferrells on the amp wiring just to make it easier if I need to take back apart and keep everything nice and clean.

I crimped the speaker wires and soldered the battery power wire and ground.

still waiting on the stupid carpet to come in to finish the box.
