I designed and built a dual 8" subwoofer box for my convertible that sits behind the seats, it's requires the removal of the rear speakers though but it sounds real good. You can read about it here if you're interested. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...subwoofer.html
I originally had the same idea of mounting between the two rear speakers behind the waterfall..... but it was WAY too much design work and would be VERY tedious to make it look good. I ended up making a slim box that fit under the top compartment . I had to remove the baffle that goes around the top in the truck, but it sounded pretty good. a single JL 10Tw3-D4 hits pretty good and only requires .5 cu ft. when running on 125w . However, as usual..... i had to have MORE more more LOL so, I added a 2nd woofer and made a new box for the same location.
here are pics of first box (before carpet) - i probably could have just went with a bigger amp and been fine...... but, now i'm adding two amps just to power the subs (3 total for system) rather than a single to do entire system. single from top single from truck with top down double trunk double with top up - top barely clears subs when down.
