I have read several threads about this topic and watched a couple videos. All of them seem to handle the the wiring a bit different because each kit is a bit different. My kit has a 12v and ground for the camera and the remote wire attached to the RCA. Can I just wire the remote and 12v constant to the reverse light power wire and the ground to the bulb's ground? This seems like it will only turn the camera on when the car is in reverse and will not overload the bulb's wiring.
you only use one of the +12V, either the one in the RCA or the separate one close to the camera. Use the short one if you want to tap into the ground and +12V on the brake bulb wiring. Use the wire integrated into the RCA cable if you want to control the camera with the radio or ignition wire close to the radio. I used the ignition wire at the radio so I could switch to camera view without having to be in reverse (like to so who was following me ) I also had a front camera that would I could also turn on at while driving. Just make sure you add a fuse.

If you only want to power the camera when in reverse and at the same time have the headunit to automatically display the backup camera, you can do this:
On the tail-end splice together the red wire from the RCA and the red wire from the power cable, and then take them to the (+) wire from the reverse lights. Splice the black wire from the power cable to the (-) wire from the reverse lights.
On the front-end splice the red wire from the RCA to the violet/white from the headunit.
This way you are powering your backup camera only when in reverse, and at the same time you are triggering the violet/white to automatically display the camera, as you wanted.
