So in my 2002 C5 A4, I had a kenwood dnx893s installed a couple years ago along with the kenwood cmos 230 backup camera. A few months back it stopped turning on when shifting in reverse. I can go into the menu and can turn the camera on and it comes on. So I know that camera is working and powered up.
I want to try and troubleshoot myself but don't know where to start. Unfortunately the installer, is no longer in business. (Former forum vendor)
Your reverse sensor wire (I believe its the purple/white wire)connection from your kenwood unit to the reverse light(light green wire) of the car could be loose and not making a good connection. Its probably connected this way. Thats how I have my kenwood hooked up in my C6 when I installed mine as mentioned above. On the C6 the reverse wire color is green just like the C5... Check there its a start

Dumb question, is this connection inside the car at the shifter, or outside where my backup bulbs are ?
Circling back to this issue. Last night I learned my backup bulbs do not light up when shifting in reverse. They do light up when hitting the key fob unlock. Searched the forum but seem to only come up with similar issue for people from MN6. I've got an A4. thanks
