Kenwood Install C6 Vert Questions
I am also adding a front and rear camera and just wanted to make sure the rear camera can be powered by the wire on the head unit?
The front camera has to be hooked up to a battery wire somewhere?
Do i need to install and run the nav antenna or can i use the factory antenna?
Do i need to install the microphone that came with the new unit?
How do i wire the head unit so my wife can use all the features while driving?
I do not plan on using Onstar so i guess i really don't need to do anything with that while i have it all apart?
Where do the RCA plugs coming from the car side plug into? The kenwood has Sub, center, mids? Or do i just not plug them in?
I have no Steering Wheel Controls so i assume the wire and plug coming from the adapter is just not utilized?
Any other tips?
Thanks for you help.
I am also adding a front and rear camera and just wanted to make sure the rear camera can be powered by the wire on the head unit? Which wire on the headunit? I would tap into the ignition wire that goes to the radio. This way you can view the cameras at any time that the car ignition is on.
The front camera has to be hooked up to a battery wire somewhere? Red ignition wire going to the radio. Do not hook up to battery as it will stay on all of the time.
Do i need to install and run the nav antenna or can i use the factory antenna? On a Kenwood, the GPS antenna connector is the same, so use the factory antenna.
Do i need to install the microphone that came with the new unit? Yes, very easy to get up to the same location as the factory unit. clip on right next to it. Or, you can cut the plug and attached the connector from the new microphone. You risk damaging both microphone wires doing this, but if you're confident in your rework skills, then do it.
How do i wire the head unit so my wife can use all the features while driving? youtube, not telling you how to bypass safety features.
I do not plan on using Onstar so i guess i really don't need to do anything with that while i have it all apart? Correct
Where do the RCA plugs coming from the car side plug into? The kenwood has Sub, center, mids? Or do i just not plug them in? This is for aftermarket amplifiers. Leave capped (rubber covering) if you are not adding amps. If you plan on adding amplifiers later, go ahead and attach 20ft rca Nd remote wire to these and hide near the fuse box. When you are ready to add the amp . You won't have to remove your radio or console at all.
I have no Steering Wheel Controls so i assume the wire and plug coming from the adapter is just not utilized? Correct
Any other tips? Get 3.5 two way speakers and replace the upper door speakers. Add sound deadning (Dynamat) to your door for added response. Run your USB wires down the middle to your console. replacing the 12V outlet in your center console with a USB panel mount is very handy.
Thanks for you help.

You should check out this post I did a while back which is a summary of my C6 vert install, it should really help you.
If you have convertible you REALLY need to consider an amp and not use the Bose amp. If you do not you will regret it every time you drop the top.
