Just wanted to share a few pics of my recent install of subs in my c7. I tried to keep this pretty simple for the most part. Just built a standard wedge style box for a pair of alpine type S 10" subs. The box itself measures 42.25" wide, which fits perfectly between the wheel well plastic interior trim. It's 12" deep with rear height of 8.25" and front height of 5.25" for volume of 1.3 cu/ft. I did add a brace in the center for strength and to divide the box in 2 separate chambers. Don't need 2 chambers as I am running this mono, but wanted the strength. The 1.3 cu/ft does not account for the center brace, but it's more than enough for the subs. The amp is a kicker key 500.1. I picked this as it's so small and fit perfectly under the rear tray where the stock sub amp would be, but being a 1LT car mine didn't come with it. Just cut a piece of 3/4" mdf to fit in the spot and the amp fits perfectly. I forgot to take a pic of the amp mounted, but do have 1 shot of the board in place. I also chose this amp as it has high level inputs and dsp to correct the bose tuning which turns down the bass as the volume goes up. I went with the subthump.com harness to connect it, which gives line out for both front speakers as well as disabling the noise cancellation mics. Super simple connection was a plus. Turned out really nice I think and sounds good, even with the other stock speakers/amp. Added a bit of sound deadening while I had everything apart. What you can see on the car, but also to the back side of the plastic trim pieces removed during install.
very nice and clean. I've been struggling with my build. Not sure if I want to go back with a box or not. Are you going to continue with the audio upgrades? 3-way components up front and a 2 channel amp? For my "stealth" mood, I have audio control micro amps (1-300 and 4-300). Both fit in that same space that you pointed out. I used heavy duty velcro and stacked them.
Where did you get the carpet and how good does it match?
BTW, the 2LT and 3LT cars have the same footprint amp as the 1LT, just two extra channels for the sub.
Thanks! For now, this is all I plan to do. I went full out on my c6 with taking out entire interior and doing the full sound deadening/insulation with hybrid audio components and zapco amps. Sold the car a few months later lol.
The carpet is from Crutchfield, just their black roll. It looks like a closer match than what the pics show.. Around $30 for a good bit of carpet. I could do 2 more boxes with what I have left.
Thanks for the amp info. I just assumed a separate sub amp would reside there.
