Default XM is great

I just got back from Vegas (350 miles one way), and listened to XM the entire way with NO interuptions. Even areas that had little to no FM signal, the XM was clear and commercial free; for the channel I was listening to at least. For those of you on the fence on whether to get it or not, you will not be disappointed with your purchase.

it is in the rear facia, by the suggestion of another CF member (thanks). If you remove a rear light there is a small shelf in the center of the facia. Clean it well with de-natured alchohol and stick the antenna there. I mounted my reciever in the passenger rear compartment, so I drilled a 3/8 hole in the compartment to get the wires through.

Thanks for the answer. I have one additional question, which unit do you have and where did you mount the display unit?

I have a XM ready, Alpine 7977 Head Unit. I had to buy a XM receiver that came with a interconnect cable (cable that allows for multiple Alpine accessories to be daily chained together). Head Unit was 500 last year, and the xm reciever was 240 or so, and the antenna was 70 bucks.

So you popped out one of the inside tail lights and the shelf was toward the center of the car? Did you do the MP3 CD changer as well? Did you gromet the hole into the storage compartment?

Agreed, I have 2 units. I think I am the guy who recommended the interior fascia install. Here is the picture that's been posted a zillion times in this section already.

Now that winter is upon us, even the very few weak signal spots due to heavy foliage cover are now bare here in the Northeast. Reception is perfect. I haven't listened to standard FM radio in months now.

Is the SQ from XM equal to that of a CD? I know that when I listen to a song on FM radio and the same song on CD, there is no comparison in SQ. The CD will always sound cleaner, more robust, and have much better bass than on FM radio even with good reception. How does XM compare?

It's very very close to CD quality, but on a good system I can still hear a slight difference (this is assuming that you've got the XM hardwired into your head unit and aren't running it through wireless as an FM channel). That said, it's much closer to CD quality than it is FM quality. The channel separation is outstanding.

$9.99 per month, billed to your credit card quarterly.

I liked it enough that a month after I had it installed in my vette, I bought one of the Delphi SkiFi units to move between my other cars and my office. :yesnod:

XM is very close to CD when not used with a FM modulator. If you are on the fence get it..
You will not be disappointed. I never listend to FM anymore

Hello,

I just ordered a couple of the new SkyFi units...one for my home and one for my Corvette.

My question is how to hook the unit up to a Corvette when it doesn't have a cassette. I have been told that the unit is coming with a radio hookup that uses the cassette. What do I do without a cassette in my car?

I have installed the Delphi XM SKIFi in my C5 Convertible, Volvo Wagon, 2 in home and in my office – all with one tuner ($10 a month once). It is fantastic. In the C5, you need 2 harnesses to make it work into the BLOWS OEM Head unit. As you know, you do not want to do the FM modulator. The source for the 2 harnesses is LOGJAM ELECTRONICS. See below for contact info. Let me know if this helps. Do let me know if you get this.

Patrick – Your old customer in Washington, DC

I. LOGJAM:

Web site (the exact page your need) and contact information.: http://store5.yimg.com/I/logjam_1714_750616
LOGJAM ELECTRONICS / P. O. Box 211 / Anderson, IN 46015 / (765)644-1251

II. The items you need:

(1) PIE GM10-AUX Auxiliary GM10AUX 69.95
Input Converter

(2) PIE COR-HAR Cable Harness
Amount : 76.45

(3) You may or may not need a Ground Fault Issolator - Radio Shack $14.00

III. INSTRUCTIONS:

Pull up the passengers footwell carpet and panel along with the right kickpanel. You will probably have to remove the small little hinge panel first which is above the kick panel. Both of the plugs that you will need for the harness are lying in the lower right corner of the passenger footwell. The 3 wire plug has a little piece of white tape on it, the other plug is pretty close to it but its secured to the frame with one of those plasticbarbed push plugs.
