Hey guys, happy new year. So I got a new pioneer 5200nex head unit as a gift so it’s time to finally upgrade this beast.
I’m open to any tips but to start, I’m lookin for something decent and I’m wondering if that sub thump partition box Is any good. I was thinking of two 8s vs a ten. I’m kind of all over on music and Is there any such thing as a decent sounding Vette hatch without sound deadening? Lol
So for now, what would you get for a box, sub and amp combo? (Just components and not wiring, speakers etc)
For $1000 on a box can I piece together anything half decent? I basically have a blank slate so I’m not really an audio guy so give me a 4 if 10 was a connoisseur. Thanks fellas and my car is pretty ******* loud so keep that in mind.
Id prob upgrade speakers maybe next winter or fall but that is different budget.
I has been my experience that partition boxes significantly outperform the corner boxes in the C6. I used to run several variants of corner box and was never really happy. Moving to the mid mounted (Subthump Z06 dual 10") partition box was a noticeable upgrade that addressed a lot of the cancelation issues in the car due to position and wavelengths.
I’ll second this. Have had a JL Stealthbox in my C6 for over ten years. Hard to beat the company’s ergonomic design and performance. Not cheap but worth the price of admission, a JL 10w3 powered nicely in its sealed box sounds very refined yet can be heard and felt over high powered components and coax rear fill.
Nice shortfin OP. 👍
I agree with Turbo. Mid mounted subs firing DOWN if possible will yield the best result in a C6. Ask me how I know.
Vince nailed it with that amp recommendation. I ran a Slash 500/1 for EVER and I ran it hard. Another really great amp (in a tiny package) is the new XD 600/1. I run that now (until I add my second sub and move up to the 1000/1.)
I found out these skar svr-10 will fit into the z06 partition box. For a economy sub they get some good reviews. This is their mid range line. 800rms (1600 max). The cubic foot recommended is .65 but these boxes are .6 so it should be ok I think
Yes I know I could spend a ton more but I’m going for budget here as it is a loud car.
6.5 is depth of the partition box to mount subs. So any other contenders maybe in the sub $250 category per sub? I know there are more but these these spec out well for the price. People seem to find value in them. Ty
Have you looked at the JL 10W3v3? Its at $299, but its a proven sub.
my installer is a big JL fan. I’d love to get all jl stuff too but I might try the skar subs. I can get two and still be under the cost of one jl. These are off amazon prime so if I don’t like them I just send them back. So I might try them and they do have very good ratings. Again, these aren’t my top choice. I’m going for a budget system. If the skar suck I just drop them off at my local Whole Foods. They don’t even have to be boxed lol. Dead serious. And to reiterate its their svr-10 model subwoofer. They look nice for $119 or 129 or whatever they are.... economical.
I recently did this with my odyssey. I tested budget pieces until I found a combo I liked and ended up with some Rockford tens off prime. Between stuff I had and amazon I came up with a decent combo at a very good price.
