I currently have a custom sub box in my car that houses a MTX Thunder 7500 12 inch sub (system is over 15 years old) in a sealed enclosure. It was made to fit in the center well of my C5. I want to keep the box and swap out the sub. My question is can I just swap in whatever I want, or do I need to consider other things such as mounting depth and cubic volume as well?
For reference the current sub has a mounting depth of 7 3/16in and I am not sure the exact specs of the current box, but it would have to be at least 1.25 cubic feet according to the speaker data sheet.
If this question doesn't make sense please let me know and I will clarify as much as I can.
You probably have less than 1 cu.ft. unless the box was built a few inches above the opening.
Why are you wanting to replace? What sound are you after?
A JL Audio sub 12w3, 12TW1, or 12TW3 would be good candidates depending on the box size and amp in use.
Post a couple of pictures of what you have.
