Default Multiple questions for C5 install

I'm going to get the ball rolling on this so I went ahead and ordered my amps today, so I'm going to start ordering everything else.

How much dynomat does it take to properly deaden a C5? I'm going to get an IDMAX from sounddomain and they give you a trunk kit which is like 8 ft^2 of dynomat extreme and 12 ft^2 of normal dynomat.

I'm going to be getting an alpine cda-7998 and I was wondering about the way that the c5's dash is somewhat recessed. If I get the metra kit with the little compartment under the stereo (99-4000) then would the oversized face of the 7998 hit the part of the dash above it or should I get the kit that keeps the stereo more centered?

As far as my shopping needs, Who's the cheapest AUTHORIZED Focal and Alpine dealers on the web?

Thanks in advance guys :D

So far, I've got 80 ft^2 in the trunk alone, but could be a little overkill :D
I would say, about 70 ft^2 would do the whole car good. Look for Rammat or BrownBread, cheep and as good as dynamat.

Sorry, can't help you here, but don't think it would be a problem.

Doubt if you will find to many Authorized, but there are a few. Try www.sounddomain.com And double check before you buy from the manufacturer if you question it.

The "normal" GM install kit mounts the head unit centered in the dash opening and, for the most part, flush with the surrounding trim.

The meta kit with the pocket, mounts the head unit at the top of the dash opening and it "sticks out" about 3/8" of an inch from the surrounding trim.

Because of this "sticking out" I decided to go back to the "normal" GM install kit. The metra kit might work better for you with the active face plate on the 7998. I'll sell you mine if you are interested.

I didn't realize it stuck out....I'm probably end up going with the normal metra kit also then.

Just to be clear. The Metra kit #99-4000 (with the CD pocket) sticks out 3/8". I don't have any experience with the metra kit #99-3300 (no CD pocket). But I have used other brands univeral GM mounting kit (wal-mart, or crutchfield), and it will sit flush.

I got the Metra kit with the slot for CD's and it does stick out way too much. If I had it to do over I'd go with a flush mount. It looks MUCH better.

For what its worth, I saw pics of another forum member's 7998 install using the metra 99-4000 kit. It looked great with no HU face clearance problems (motorized phantom face). BTW, I have a 99-4000 kit on order for my 7897 (also on order) which shares identical dimensions and phantom operation as the 7998. I like the look of the pocket below the HU.

Here are a couple of shots of when I had my Pioneer HU installed using a universal GM kit from Crutchfield. I don't have any pics my Alpine install with the metra pocket kit.
